Does medicaid cover seeing a dermatologist?

I have spots on my back, face and arms that don%26#039;t tan in the summer, they%26#039;re caused by years of sundamage. I%26#039;m 21 ans really love to swim but now I%26#039;m afraid to even wear a swim suit. I%26#039;m on medicaid, I have paramont advantage do they cover seeing a derm?|||Medicaid covers specialty dr visits. You probably need a referral form from your general doctor.|||Only if your primary care doctor will refer you. If you do not have a primary care listed on your card, then I would call the Medicaid office. Medicaid is VERY strict on what it pays, and its doubtful that unless something were symptomatic or harmful they wouldn%26#039;t see you for just cosmetic reasons.|||not if its for cosmetic reasons. you%26#039;ll need a recommendation and a referral for it to be approved and probably approved through medicaid in advance. But i guarantee if its cosmetic they wont cover it.|||i had medicaid and the limitations get tougher after you turn 20 or 21. i really do not believe this is covered. its more for cosmetics than health.|||yeah they pretty much consider anything with the appearance of your skin as %26quot;cosmetic%26quot; and won%26#039;t cover it|||probably not since medicaid is state funded.............|||yes if you have a problem, not just for cosmetic needs|||call them and ask

How do I see a dermatologist (U.K.) regarding cosmetic concerns?

I%26#039;d like to see a dermatologist to ask his or her opinion on cosmetic procedures like the ones offered by laser clinics etc, so how do I do this?

I%26#039;ve heard that you need to go through your GP first, but can I ask my GP to refer me to a dermatologist for cosmetic reasons, rather than medical?

I also don%26#039;t know whether to tell them about my mental health, as I suffer from depression and social anxiety, and I have heard that cosmetic practitioners do not like operating on people with %26#039;unstable mental health%26#039;, for obvious reasons, though I myself am quite realistic on the limitations of cosmetic procedures.

However, because I have very little money and want the procedure done as soon as possible - I go to uni in October - would it be better to tell my GP the reason I want the procedure? I have heard that - on an unrelated field - that mole removal can be done cosmetically at no cost on the NHS if the patient is self-conscious about it and the scarring that could be left by a basic excision (how it is done on the NHS...). Would this be similar for cosmetic laser surgery do you think?

Any advice greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.|||I%26#039;ve just finished my rotation in a dermatology department in the UK, so I hope I can help. I%26#039;m not sure what you mena by %26quot;cosmetic%26quot; and %26quot;medical%26quot; . If you have any problem whatsoever and it is affecting your confidence and social behaviour, explain this to your GP and they will do their best to help you (on the NHS). Be completely honest with them, its the easiest way for you to get the right treatment for you.

You can%26#039;t be referred to any dermatology clinic without going to your GP first. Discuss it with your GP, he/she will tell you all the options available to you and will suggest what is the best action to take.

Also, I%26#039;m sorry, but as your GP will be referring you to the consultant they will know the relevant bits from your medical history, however I dont think that your depression will limit your chances of surgery at all. Most patient%26#039;s I have seen were being opereated on BECAUSE it effected them psychologically.

About the mole removal, yes! It is the most common procedure done in see-and-treat clinics in dermatology. You go in, they look, if they are worried about it they whip it off and you go straight home again. However I haven%26#039;t seen any %26quot;cosmetic laser surgery%26quot; so I wouldn%26#039;t be able to help you with that. It would be easier if you explain what it is you want- are you sure surgery is the best option for you?|||You won%26#039;t get any cosmetic procedures on the NHS unless you have very serious reasons for it, you can discuss it with your GP.|||sorry this question is about to be deleted

I felt dismissed by the dermatologist again, what do i do ?

she said she thought the cracking of my skin on the head of my penis , is %26#039; normal %26#039; she couldnt explain whats caused it, but she told me there was no visable signs of psoriasis, dermatitis , or balantitis, or lichen sclerosis.

she said the itching i had was normal, and that everybody sweats down in the genital area.

she told me she wasnt sure if the cracks and tears in the skin will clear or whats caused them, but they might reduce in time, that i need to use simple emoliants.

she pointed out id had pictures taken of the area, a top consultant in london had looked at the pictures , who said there was no skin problem and that it was %26#039; normal %26#039;.

that id had urology test done which all came back clear.

i told dr yell though i was still unhappy about the cracks and tears covering the head of my penis and that i wanted another opinion.......she said ok a and that she was going to reccommend i see a %26#039; professor griffis %26#039; at a local hospital.

im really disappointed with this morings dermatology appointment because once again their telling me theres %26#039; no %26#039; skin conditiion and that the cracks and tearing of my skin on the head of my penis ---------( which is very prominent to look at ) ---------------- is normal for me.

the only happiness i got is that ill get another opinion from a professor..

whilst there this morning she also aggreed to let me have a swab done of my penis head..

normally the head of a male penis as a smooth baby skin appearence.

mine is all cracked, like little tears covering the head part.

im 30 years old now and ive felt really anxious about this problem......i feel very inadequete and inferior as a male.

i hope to god, i pray that the cracked skin will clear up in time.....the not knowing is really tormenting me.

i have my forskin.......the condition doesnt hurt...im very sensitive down there.......i can get erections ok...

i have a forskin, but the skin covering %26#039; the head %26#039; of my penis is still all cracked and teared.

and i mean the head of my penis not the forskin - and there not just wrinkles that smooth out when im erect , the skin is actually cracked and fissured

btw - the cracks and tears on the head of my penis dont itch at all, they just feel very sensitive.

also i was checked for diabetes a couple of months ago the tests were clear.

i felt very disappointed once again to be told im normal and that theres no skin condition, the only clarity i got is that she agreed to get me refered to a professor about this.

what do i do ?|||See a counselor to find out why you are obsessed with your penis. Normal penis heads do have cracks and fissures, not sure where you got the idea that a penis head should be smooth like baby skin. After all the tests and examinations, accept that you are quite normal and healthy and worry about something else. Any tiny tears or rips can easily be healed with petroleum jelly. |||if you are unhappy with the opinions dolled out by the current practitioner, get a second opinion from another doc.

good luck with it|||On your computer, type in: %26quot;Cracked Penis Skin%26quot;. A page will pop up with all kinds of websites with similar problems as yours. Scroll down to where it reads: %26quot;Cracked Skin %26amp; Redness On Penis Head%26quot; %26lt;%26lt; Medical Questions.. Click %26amp; read. There are several examples similar or identical to your problem. Check it out to see if there are any remedies that may help ease your mind. I know it must be really hard on you emotionally, having gone thru this for so long %26amp; only getting the run around by various doctors. Good Luck, my friend.|||That is not easy to answer. Even the dermatologist doesn%26#039;t know what it is which is why you felt dismissed.

Here are some guesses which you have probably thought of:

A fungal infection can be ruled out after the swab results come back.

Eczema?

Do you take supplements? How about a good mineral and vitamin supplement. A really good one from a reputable source. Our bodies need these vital nutrients to form healthy tissue, maybe you are deficient in something.

Essential fatty acids.

Antioxidants.

It%26#039;s good that you are getting a second opinion. It does not seem that it is balanitis. This is the male form of lichen sclerosus but it is rare in males. Itching is intense so it seems that the dermatologist is correct.

If no help try a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner.

|||Until you see the professor just use simple moisturisers as you want him to see it as it is.

People sweat around their testicles and groin area and sometimes get a fungal infection which is treatable with Canestan but you would use something like that in your groin area but not on the head of your penis.

Hope they get you sorted out soon.

Andy

Should I go to a dermatologist?

I am 21 years old, female, and I considered myself to have mild acne. I%26#039;ve been struggling with it since high school, but the last year has been bad. It seems like every time i get my period, I have a huge breakout, usually on my chin. and whenever I finally get them somewhat under control, they come back. And I have scars from previous breakouts that won%26#039;t go away. I don%26#039;t know if anyone has had this problem, or if I should go to a dermatologist? I don%26#039;t even know if my insurance covers it. Any tips would be great. Thanks to everyone.|||yes go|||Go see a dermatologist. Get an expert opinion. In the meantime - dissolve 1 aspirin in 2 tablespoons of water and use a q-tip to dab that on the breakout - twice a day. It can be very drying so just put it on the pimple. I got adult acne and this worked really well for me.|||if you have a skin question or have spent any time in the sun, seeking the advice of the skin professional is prudent.

What should I tell my dermatologist?

I was prescribed Dermasmoothe FS by my dermatologist because the front of my hair is thin. I later read that Dermasmoothe is prescribed for scalp psoaris. However, I don%26#039;t think I have psoaris. I don%26#039;t have dandruff or a scaly scalp. My scalp doesn%26#039;t bother me at all. What should I do?|||just go to your dermatologist and ask him/her to explain to you what the product is supposed to do or ask what scalp psoaris is even though you already know, but you wouldn%26#039;t want to go in and tell the dermatologist that they are wrong in their professional field. oh and stop using the product until you find out what specifically it is for|||You could always just ask him if that is what you need for your problem. Sometimes a medicine is good for more than one thing, scalp psoaris may just be the main thing.|||ask your dermatologist? Tell him/her that you have concerns because..

and ask if this product would be ok to use. Dermatologist are paid to help you, feel free to ask questions.|||if he gave it to you he gave it to you

Should I stop seeing my dermatologist?

I am 17 and have been seeing a dermatologist about my complexion for 4 years now. My face looked good for awhile, but now it is broken out again. He says it is because 16 and 17 are the worst hormonal years. Should I stop seeing this dermatologist and find someone more active.|||To me, the answer is yes. I had it bad when I was younger, and started going to a dermatologist. He got it under control, and never claimed that hormones would make it impossible to control. Find another doctor, it doesnt sound like you can do much worse.|||I am having the same problem,I mean, I had really bad acne about a year ago,and I went to my dermatologist, and it completely cleared up,but now it%26#039;s coming back, and I%26#039;ve talked to him about this, and he told me the same thing that your dermatologist told you,and I think that he just doesn%26#039;t know what he%26#039;s doing. So, I%26#039;ve decided to go and find another, better dermatologist because I don%26#039;t want to waste my time anymore. And you shouldn%26#039;t waste yours either,so I say,go and find a new one, your the one who has to deal with your skin everyday, and it should be beautiful!!! Hope I helped XD

HELP!penis skin problem!any dermatologist or doctors??

I recently started to get an itching sensation on the underside of my penis.i have very rough hands and if i masturbate this has sometimes happened in the past but always goes away.however this time it still persists and also i found the skin of the itching are to be very wrinkled and sort of cluster together and is loose.it is most pronounced when flacid.I recently did some reserch and fear it might be genital warts.but i don not have any bleeding or discharge and also the itching is not persistant through out the day.Last sexual contact was about six or more months ago|||You are right to ask for a doctor or dermatologist, but the best way to diagnose a skin condition is to examine the area. Please don%26#039;t submit photos; just go to your doctor!

I want to become a dermatologist, ?

an oncology pharmacist, or an anesthesiologist. I am 16 years old, and don%26#039;t tell me that it takes too much school or that it would be too hard. I am aware that it could take me around 12 years to graduate college, and I know it will be hard. I am ready and willing to put in all of the work. I want to know if you think I will be satisfied with one of these choices. Are these careers good choices? I don%26#039;t care about the money, I just want to help people. I would really just like your general opinion on these careers.|||Those are all very noble professions. You follow your heart and your passion and you can%26#039;t go wrong. Go for it!|||These are very good careers, anesthesiology is somewhat the most stressful. for dermatology and anesthesiology you%26#039;d have to go to Medical school, then around four years of residency. For pharmacy it all takes about 6 years to get the degree then a residency or fellowship in oncology.

If i would choose one, it would be dermatologist, its a lot less stressful that anesthesiologist, yet its better than a pharmacist.

Good luck!|||I know you can be wateva you want gurl az long az you ztay focuz and dnt get in no mix of boyz who will bring you down and be around pple who dnt want the best of nuttin then you got it. Question about my medicene from dermatologist, please help.?

Hi, I just went to a dermatologist last thursday to look at my mild acne (started about 4 months ago). I%26#039;ve never had acne problem before and I%26#039;m in my early 20s now, and getting ready to graduate and start a career, so I wanted to get this taken care of. The derm. gave me the following:

~benzoyl peroxide 5% gel (daytime)

~clindamyim phosphate solution (daytime)

~retinoic acid cream (night time)

I been using it since last thursday (so for about 5 days now), my skin has been really dry and sensitive since, and my face feels like sunburn. Is this a normal initial reaction? And how long before I should start seeing results?

Also anyone with experience with experience with the treatments mentioned above, please let me know how it worked out for you and the time frame of the med. The derm told me that it might get worst before it get better??|||Ask about Nicomide instead. That%26#039;s what I am on and it doesn%26#039;t dry out my skin at all.|||wow. i actually have the same thing happening to me. i beleive i am taking the same things as you except the reinoic acid cream. i have this pill. and my skin is the same way, very dry and lately it is peeling. i started using mine last wed. and when i put it on friday night. my face started to burn and got very red like sun burn. i called my doctor up and he said i should just wait till the pain stops and then start using it again but use little amounts. But he also said that it is supposed to hurt. im not sure though. mine has stopped hurting me today, but it still peeling and very dry.|||Actually all of those medicines tend to have a drying affect - it can make your skin look worse before it starts to get better.

The big thing is that the retinoic acid is taking the top layer of cells off your skin - which causes the red dry tight feeling.

I would let your doctor know; usually with that reaction, it will settle down; if it painful you can start using the retinoic acid every other day and see if that helps.

For acne treatments to start working, it takes anywhere from 6-12 weeks.|||it%26#039;s too harsh for you skin. call your doctor and let him know it%26#039;s drying you out and making your skin hurt. he needs to prescribe something lighter. i%26#039;ve had that problem but not from those meds, i had it from oxy because there was too much alcohol in it! once i stopped using it my face felt much better.

Need to talk to a dermatologist.?

i have these really embarressing bag like things under my eyes. they arent bags but like under my eyes its puffy. it bothers me so much and i%26#039;m so insecure about it. i always look tired. i would be so much more confident if these were gone. and i wanted to email a dermatologist to see how i could possibly get rid of them and get all the information before telling my mom. [im 14 by the way]. but idk where to find a site where you can just talk to a derm. it doesnt have to be the one im gonna go to i just need to talk to one and get some details. please give any sites or if you just know how to get rid of my problem without a dermatologist please please please tell me. i hate not having any confidence because of them. please help!!! i need answers soon[= thank you so much for anyone that helpsss!!|||hmm well i dont think you can actually do that. Just sit down and talk to ur mom. Ask her to take u. Also do some research. A tip that might help is that not only can he prob solve ur problem but he can check ur skin to make sure u dont have any skin cancer. Everyone should be getting this done once a year anyway.|||Hmm, bags under the eyes at 14...All are such a big deal when we are 14. Cant tell you to wait till 40, then you put things in the right perspective:)

Anyway, no dermatologist will agree to %26quot;correspond%26quot; with you on line for your problem, and if he does, I would want to see his license.LOL

With that said, did you ever try any creams for under eyes puffiness? A little secret: Try tea bags, potato slices, cucumbers or....prep H...seriously. It worked for me.

FYI: Men think that puffines under the eyes is sexy! (don%26#039;t ask me why, maybe reminds them of someone who hadn%26#039;t slept all night:)

Serious enough to see a dermatologist...?

Ever since I was really young (and I%26#039;m 16 now) I%26#039;ve had very sore lips. It may heel for a few days at a time, but then it will come back. It seems to be worse if I eat tomato sauce or any fruit (because of the acidity I think). Even if I avoid these my lips will still itch, become dry and wrinkle slightly and then bleed. It really bugs me, and I%26#039;ve tried every lip balm and cream there is (from Vaseline to Nivea) but nothing seems to work. Would a dermatologist think I was being silly and overdramatic if I booked an appointment for this, or should I see one?|||i would go to the dermatologist, they shouldn%26#039;t think you were silly because it would be something serious and i kinda have the same problem my lips have there good days and there bad. i use Vaseline sometimes it stops the burning, but it doesn%26#039;t really do much. I have eczema so my mom thinks that maybe its irritating my lips. I hope this helps. :)|||It could just be severely dried lips. I%26#039;d go see a dermatologist, it%26#039;s obviously annoying having skin like that. And the dermatologist is professional, so if he thinks you are being silly and overdramatic, go see a different dermatologist.

it may be an allergy to certain acids or something in those fruits and tomatos?|||you should go see a dermatologist. It could be serious.

I've Gone To The Dermatologist 2 Times Now And Still Have Serious Acne!?

Ok, I went to the Dermatologist last year because of I had tried absolutely EVERYTHING - including ProActive and all of the other over-the-counter brands - ALL OF IT! And so, she prescibed me to Minocycline and some of this cream stuff to put on every morning and night. It helped for a little while, then I started getting breakouts again, so I finally stopped (I was on it for like over three months, so you can%26#039;t say I didn%26#039;t stick to it). And I have %26quot;underground zits%26quot; btw, and those are the REALLY PAINFUL kind, and the ickiest and yuckiest kind to have so uh, YAH. I%26#039;m sick of it.

So I recently went again a little over a month ago, and she prescribed me to Minocycline AGAIN and then gave me some RETIN-A. I have been on this stuff for about a month now, and yes she did say my acne would get worse before it got better, but that I should see results soon. And NO. Nothing my acne is the exact same. I have blackheads, whiteheads, underground zits, and oily skin. NOTHING IS WORKING AND WE CAN%26#039;T AFFORD TO GO TO THE DERMATOLOGIST EVERY MONTH SO WHAT THE HECK CAN I DO??? I am sick of it!!! I%26#039;m 14 yrs old and NONE of my friends have zits. It%26#039;s so embarrassing and so painful!

Please, I am in desperate need of your help. What should I do? We called the Dermatologist two times in the past week now, and she just keeps saying %26quot;Well, we have you an appointment in three months. It should start working okaaaaay remember it gets worse before it gets better.%26quot; But nothing has happened.

WHAT SHOULD I DO??? I CANNOT GO THROUGH THIS ANY LONGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?br>

p.s. Yah I went over all the procedures. I%26#039;m using a gentle, mild cleanser (Dove), and I wait two hours to moisturizer. Her rules and I%26#039;m following them. I don%26#039;t what the heck%26#039;s wrong here.|||use that stuff again, once it has cleared up almost, use Clearasil Stay Clear face wash, toner and a moisturizer. buy the clearasil ultra stay clear acne kit, and buy clearasil stay clear pads, clearasil ultra sensitive face wash, and use every day, and you%26#039;ll be good.

trust me.

Dermatologist for 5 years. For Teens.

Shoud l go to the dermatologist?HELP!?

My mom says she wants to take me to the dermatologist but I%26#039;m a little afraid. My dad says that my stepsister had acne when she was a teen and they gave her a medication and now she can%26#039;t have babies. Do all dermatologist give you pills or does it depend on how severe your acne is. Mine is not so bad but I%26#039;m afraid it%26#039;ll get worse. I have really tan oily skin and I think acne runs in the family. I also want to get rid of it so bad but I don%26#039;t know what to do.Having acne makes me feel less confident and I don%26#039;t like it. Do you guys know what products I should use. Thanks for your help.|||Maybe your dad was exaggerating? If your sister really became sterile from medicine, your family could probably sue the doctor for a lot of money.

You should just go see the doctor and decide afterwards whether or not you need to be afraid. Going there may calm your fears. I think you are worrying too far in advance. When you see the doctor, he might be able to explain it better.

There%26#039;s nothing to risk losing by just going. You don%26#039;t have to take the medicine if you feel uncomfortable. The good thing about acne is that even though it doesn%26#039;t look that great. It%26#039;s just a cosmetic thing.

But anyways, I heard Proactiv works really well for acne.

Also, varying your diet helps. If you eat a lot of oily foods it actually shows up as oil. Get plenty of hydration. Drink lots of water. Eat little salt.

Good luck!|||I would say no.

if you%26#039;re unsure about it, don%26#039;t go.

buy some clearasil stayclear acne treatment cream (vanishing/invisible)!!!!!!!!!!!! it works amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can buy it at most drug stores.

i wouldn%26#039;t go, especially if there%26#039;s risks like stopping you from having children (I want to be a mom some day, so to me this would be a risk)

you can work on confidence, and change your self-esteem, but you can%26#039;t change something permanent (obviously) :)

a big way to help urself would be to DO SOME RESEARCH!!! find out how high the risks are, etc. then decide :)

hope this helps :)|||They probably put her on a birth control pill, thats what he meant by her not being able to have babies:) Birth control pills can help with acne so sometimes its prescribed for that. Don%26#039;t worry, once she%26#039;s off the pill she can have babies.|||use clearasil ultra acne solution system or Clean and Clear acne control kit or heres a home remedy put honey on yur face for about 30 minutes every day or rub garlic directly on acne or pimple

hope this helps =)|||I think what your dad is referring to is a medication called acutane(generic brand is called claravis). This medication is for severe acne. While taking it, you should NOT get pregnant as the baby will be born with birth defects. Guys shouldn%26#039;t have sex, as the same rule applies if they get a girl pregnant. Dermatologists do NOT always prescribe pills. I go to a dermatologist. When my acne was more severe, I was on acutane. It worked wonders. Now, after the six month course is over, I%26#039;ve been put on several creams, which help keep the minor breakouts from occuring. You shouldn%26#039;t be scared to go vist a dermatologist. Trust me, you will be GLAD you did.|||The only medication that has adverse effect on babies is accutane and it doesn%26#039;t have any long term effects, you just can%26#039;t get pregnant while on the medication or for 30 days after, it does NOT cause infertility. Either your father is trying to scare you, she had some other medical condition that caused infertility or he has zero clue what he%26#039;s talking about.

A dermatologist will start you off on a low level treatment, they don%26#039;t want to start off with the strong stuff right away since some can have side effects. Most likely, it%26#039;ll be something topical and a course of antibiotics. I mean really, do you honestly believe that your mother and Dr would put you on something dangerous?

Don%26#039;t worry, you%26#039;ll be fine and have pretty clear skin.

I don't think my dermatologist really helped..?

About two months ago, I went to see a dermatologist about my moderate acne. My appointment was right after school so I still had make-up on and of course it covers up blemishes so you couldnt see much. When I got there she looked at my skin for a split second and asked how long i%26#039;ve had acne blah blah then prescribed me face cream which I thought was working but now my acne is a bit worse than before......is that how a dermatologist is supposed to help because it doesn%26#039;t seem like she did anything at all except randomly gave me a $100 prescription?

And now I%26#039;m doing back because it%26#039;s not working and the stuff (retin-a %26amp; benzaclin) is too expensive....|||Sometimes it takes about 6 months for a product to work correctly, especially those expensive prescribed ones. Or maybe it%26#039;s just not the right kind of treatment for you. Give it a while and if it%26#039;s still not working go back and have her prescribe something else. It might be trial and error until you get the right product for your skin.

How do I find a dermatologist around my area?

i have some marks on my face that i find unattractive and would like to get rid of. im probably going to go to a dermatologist but i%26#039;m only 18 and don%26#039;t laugh but my mom has scheduled all my past family doctor appoinments. i dont think this one is a dermatologist, so im wondering how can I find information about one in my area.

obviously the internet is a good start, but my real question is should I go to my family doctor first and ask her to give me her opinion and refer me to somebody or should i just look online?

i would like to avoid my family doctor because ive known her since i was probably 3 years old and im sort of self-conscious about this and i%26#039;d feel a lil weird talkin to her about this ****.|||If you want your insurance to pay, you have to go through the family doctor, however; if you have an extra $90 laying around, go see a derm MD.|||phone book|||Yellowpages.com|||Look in the phone book, online, ask a friend who they have gone to. Pick one and if afte ryour first appt. you don%26#039;t care for them then try another one. I have a question for dermatologist, and skin care freaks.?

is mineral makeup really better for our skin? or is it just a genious marketing plans for cosmetic companies to make us buy it? i want to buy some mineral makeup for myskin, but i want to make sure its healthy , wont age or damage my skin in the long run.,, thank you|||It does help but only for a tiniest bit. Basically, it might feel nice afterward but if you%26#039;re expect any significant results, then it%26#039;s not worth it.

The only proven thing that can make any effect is the Neutrogena Age Defying serum and toner but even those can do only help a little. It%26#039;s the only clinically proven thing that can have visible difference but it%26#039;s not a big difference still.

The best way is still the normal cleaning routine, moisturize, sunblock, drink plenty of water and have enough sleep.... and of course a healthy diet with exercise. ^_^

Anyone ever been to the dermatologist??

i have had an outbreak of that under the skin, super sore acne around my jaw for the past few months and i have NEVER HAD ACNE before in my life. i finally broke down and went to a dermatologist who prescribed an antibiotic (bactrim ds) a face wash (benzoyl peroxide or something) and differin gel (.3%).

MY FACE IS RED AND DRY AND HURTS LIKE A SUNBURN!!!! does it do this before it starts to get better, or is the medication just too much to handle?? what should i do???|||I had the same thing happen! I was using the same stuff you mentioned. benzocline is the stuff they gave me and retin A. Gosh... it hurt. I made sure to use moisturizer, I skipped using the prescribed stuff for a few days and then just lessened the dose. Now I only use the benzocline ( acne stuff) a couple times a week- I do not have acne, but had a couple marks under my chin. I am only using retin A once a day. Use your stuff sparingly. My skin is looking great now. Took a couple weeks to adjust to the products, though. It was like a bad burn..,ouch. I even peeled a bit. Hang in there, don%26#039;t apply so much. It is prescription strength and strong. You will probably be fine.

I bought a tub of Palmers coco butter and vitamin E cream to moisturize- very thick and makes my skin feel great. Completely aleviated the dryness.|||Try a moisturizer ...

if that doesn%26#039;t work, then you probably have sensetive skin.

Tell your dermatologist.|||Try L-Lysine. This should help. Otherwise check out naturopathic sites. According to Kevin Trudell medical doctors can only prescribe you pharmaceutical medications. I do to, and all though Ive never had this bad a breakout, I do get red when i use simple %26quot;proactive%26quot; or %26quot;clearisle%26quot; What i would do is simply put some moustrizer on it or maybe get a facial. great relaxation too :)

How much is a typical dermatologist consultation fee?

I want to go to a derm about my acne problem and i haven%26#039;t really begun my research yet about pricings, etc., so I was wondering if you guys could give me a ballpark estimate of how much the fees are to go see a derm. Should I go to a dermatologist or my regular doctor for help with pimples?

I have pimples on my forehead and chin that I really want to get rid of - whiteheads, blackheads, and sometimes bigger ones that are a little red. My cheeks are fine, but I want to even out my skin tone and clear my zits FAST! My friend went to her regular doctor who prescribed a cleanser (kind of like rubbing alcohol haha) and she has perfect skin now - it worked for her in about a week. I don%26#039;t really have acne, like it%26#039;s just a few pimples that I notice only because I am constantly looking at my skin. So what should I do??|||Dermatologists can help this quick!|||Dermatologist because they work strictly with skin where doctors are general and don%26#039;t specialize in just that area.but if it is not serious then go to the general doctor otherwise if it is really bad then the doctor is going to send you to the dermatologist anyway. you will have to set up an appointment either way|||Start with your regular doctor - he or she should be able to help you and it will probably quicker to get in.

Acne and pimples are pretty simple usually really, so you probably don%26#039;t need a specialist.|||Going to a dermatologist worked for me! It%26#039;s probably the fastest and most effective way of clearing your skin long-term, not just for a few weeks.

I'm going to the dermatologist tomorrow and I need ADVICE!!! PLEASE!!! HELP!!!?

I need to know what to ask a dermatologist to get the most out of my visit. I have fairly oily skin especially in the t-zone. I have acne on a small localized area of my forehead. I have a feeling it might even be cosmetic acne (means i caused it by using too many products), because it won%26#039;t go away and they%26#039;re inflamed itchy bumps not whiteheads or black heads. I stopped using so many products and switching constantly; my face has gotten a little better, but the inflamed bumps on my forehead won%26#039;t go away. My face used to be really dry from all the acne things i would have on every minute of the day, but that%26#039;s gone too. So I just want to know what I should ask, what I should know. What if he/she recommends something I%26#039;ve used already?|||Say exactly what you just said here. If the dermatologist recommends something you%26#039;ve tried, then tell them. If you are afraid of forgetting something, make a list of all your skin care issues. You could even write a list of all the acne care stuff you%26#039;ve already tried. I%26#039;m sure your dermatologist would appreciate that.|||Okay, honestly you need to print out everything you just said on your question and explain to your derm dr straight up with as much concern as you%26#039;ve displayed on this forum. I%26#039;m sure it%26#039;s nothing to worry about but an allergic reaction to your makeup. It may be hard, I know trust me, but you might need to go au natural for a week or so. The worst is could be is molluscum contagiosum which I doubt you have on your face.|||TELL HER WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN%26#039;T WORK FOR YOU.

if she doesn%26#039;t know what you have and haven%26#039;t tried, the visit is pointless.

good luck|||Just tell your dermatologist about your symptoms in as much detail as possible, and also tell him/her:

-The products you used in the past, whether it be cosmetics or topical (creams and such) treatments you used for your symptoms

-How much you have used of each product and how often

-The effects those products had on your skin (regardless of how mild or major the effect it had)

-If you consulted any other doctor/dermatologist/sources concerning your condition, and if any medications were prescribed

-When your symptoms appeared, how long you have had them, when your symptoms cleared up/worsened and how long those bouts lasted

-Any allergies you may have, or intolerance you may have to certain medications, products, foods, animals and the like

-Any pre-existing medical information, if asked by the dermatologist

You should also ask about what sort of products you can buy that will not harm your skin, which are better/worse, such as cosmetics and facial cleaning products.

Hope this helps. :)|||I would also research different treatments that are used on acne, that way you can you%26#039;ll a) already have an idea about what she%26#039;s talking about and b) ask about a therapy that appeals to you (like red/blue light therapy, or differn, etc). Also, having a little bit of info on the treatments available can help you to determine which ones you may want to avoid. Dr%26#039;s try their best but a lot of time there are just too many side effects to cover and then you don%26#039;t find out about it til later. For example one Rx I take increases bruising but my Dr didn%26#039;t mention it, so for the last 3 weeks I%26#039;ve been trying to figure out why I have so many. It wasn%26#039;t until I was doing some additional research that I found it was a possibility and something I need to bring up with my Dr since it could be a bad thing (or not I am a klutz, but you get my point).

How do I see a dermatologist in the U.K.?

I%26#039;d like to see a dermatologist ASAP for health / cosmetic skin concerns. I have gathered that you need to see your GP first, but does anyone know %26#039;how%26#039; you get referred? Do you simply go to your GP and ask him/her to refer you, or do you have to fully explain why you want the referral?

Also, any ideas how long it takes to see a dermatologist after your GP refers you, and what happens after, for example: is it another wait after you see the dermatologist to actually receive treatment? Some kind of timescale would be great.

Also, I intend on going to uni in around 5 months, so if they said the waiting time is longer than that, could I go privately and not pay, or be partially reimbursed through the NHS?

Thanks in advance.|||See your GP ...explain your problem....ask to be referred to a dermatologist. It may take a few weeks or a few months it depends on where you live. You could ask your GP if he knows how long you might be waiting.

If you go privately you will have to pay, it would be very quick though, you can%26#039;t claim the money back !!|||The only way to see a dermatologist IS through your GP - unless you go privately. Your GP will have a list of competent dermatologists within the catchment area of your health authority.

Depending on how busy the dermatologist is - a first appointment could be as soon as ten days - or as long as a YEAR.

If you want private treatment - to bypass all the other people waiting for treatment - you WILL have to pay for it - and it%26#039;s NOT cheap ! The NHS will NOT fund private treatment ! (and why SHOULD they !)|||%26quot;My god, you want it all ways.

First you must see a Doctor, who if he or she cannot treat your problem with normal medicines could refer you to see a dermatologist. It is purely up to them. If they did refer you the wait period could be as long as 6 months or more depending on your area.. There is no other way of seeing a dermatologist unless you go to a private consultant, and there you will have to pay.. You will not get refunded for this through the NHS|||As Dolly Blue says, you simply make an appointment with your GP

explain your symptoms and she can refer you to a dermatologist

Usual waiting time is within 12 weeks, depending on whether the doctor sees it as urgent or routine

Remember your doc may be able to prescribe cream / medication meantime

I'm going to the dermatologist soon for acne, what can I expect?

I%26#039;m 19 and I have moderate acne. I%26#039;m going to tell him that I%26#039;ve used all sorts of creams for my face and none of them help, that my make-up is completely oil-free and safe, that I%26#039;ve been breaking out more now than I ever did during puberty.

So, what can I expect? I am wondering what he will prescribe me.|||Well if nothing else works you should ask about a drug called accutane. It%26#039;s the most powerful acne medication out right now. You%26#039;re on it for about five months. Pretty much after that your face will stay clear. You will look like you never had acne before. The draw back with this drug is that there are side effects. Since you are a woman it will be harder to get because if you get pregnant during the treatment there is a high chance of a birth defect. The common side effects are dry skin and dry lips. Also at first you may break out more but, this will only be temporary. I took accutane and i%26#039;m very satisfied. My face is totally clear. If nothing else has worked try asking about this medication.|||You can expect a lot of trial and error.

I have suffered from acne for over 25 years and glad to say it is under control now.

The biggest thing is be patient. Some medications take up to 60 days to start working.

Remember these are proffesionals but they are just doing their best with a disease that still has a lot of mysteries.

Below you can find a lot of great articles when it comes to acne, acne relief, acne scarring and so much more.|||Depending on the severity, a topical medication or a pill. Since you are so young, probably a topical solution. Have you ever tried Proactiv?? It seems to work for a lot of people that I have known. Benzyol peroxide 10 % (clean and clear) is very effective to use for acne. Proactiv%26#039;s ingredients have the Benzyol in all of the products. Acids are ok too, like salicylic, but I think that benzyol works best.

Should i bother with the dermatologist?

i%26#039;ve suffered from hormonal acne since my mid teens (i%26#039;m 22) and my only other skin issue is occasional dryness. i was debating going to the dermatologist for help with the breakouts because i%26#039;ve never been and i%26#039;m sick of just dealing with it. i know birth control is very effective in treatment, but i%26#039;m not sexually active and would prefer to not take it, if at all possible. is there even any reason to visit the dermatologist? if birth control is my only option shouldn%26#039;t i just cut out the middle man and see a gynecologist? can a dermatologist even prescribe birth control? would i just be wasting money?

that%26#039;s a lot of questions, i know. thanks so much for the help!|||I undestand what ur going through. As a teen my skin was clear until I got older. I have or had adult cystic acne which is stess related/hormonal. It%26#039;s very embarassing. I%26#039;ve tried everything on the market even a dermatologist prescribing harsh treatments which had side effects and didn%26#039;t work. By chance I was getting a checkup by my family practioner and she asked if i had any other concerns. I asked how i could clear up my acne. She prescribed a drug called Aldactone or spironolactone. It%26#039;s main use is a potassium sparing diuretic and it blocks the testosterone hormone which causes acne. You just want to make sure you watch your potassium intake as too much potassium can cause dysrhythmias. And it may make you urinate alot. I haven%26#039;t had any side effects from it. What%26#039;s best is that it%26#039;s very inexpensive. I pay $4 for 30 pills at Wal-mart. It took a month of use to see results just taking 1 pill daily, a low dose which can be increased as needed by your physician of course. My face is now clear and i haven%26#039;t had a breakout since, especially a week before my period it would be the worse. The best is I haven%26#039;t had to change my diet and i just wash my face twice a day and use moisturizer of course. Also i now only take 1 pill every 2 to 3 days. If you don%26#039;t need birthcontrol then it%26#039;s not worth the healthrisk as the pill could be cancer causing.|||try it i%26#039;t might be the answer|||It would be better to go to the dermatologist to get the proper meds (prescription topical cremes)instead of getting birth control pills and wasting money on hormones you don%26#039;t need.

Birth control pills do not help with acne. That%26#039;s a myth. A dermatologist is better in that regard.|||Try these things first:

Mix baking soda and witch hazel/or water together until it comes to a good constancy, and then spread on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. these two things are very inexpensive and it%26#039;s very easy to do since there is only two ingredients.

Toothpaste is good for drying out your pimple (for some people). Put only a little bit before you go to sleep. Some people use this as a mask but DON鈥楾 EVER DO THIS! It can change your skin tone and make your face discolored.

Aloe vera helps scars lighten and less noticeable (lemon, cocoa butter, witch hazel, and tea tree oil do the same thing). Use the gel (of the aloe plant) or the real thing.

Try to buy a cleanser that works for you, and when you wash your face, open your pores with hot water (not too hot, or it will dry out your skin) and massage it gently into your skin. Then, use cold water at the end to close you pores. The smaller your pores are, the less likely you%26#039;re prone to pimples. Clearasil, Neutrogena, and proactive are good choices to start if you want a cleanser. Don%26#039;t use body soaps because they dry out your skin. Don%26#039;t scrub too hard either, because it can irritate your skin.

An egg yoke can be used to make you pores smaller. I used this when I had pimples. Just take the egg yolk (the yellow part) and leave it on your face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water and then splash your face with cold water.

Keep your hair out of your face because the oils in your hair could go into your pores. Change you sheets because they%26#039;re are trapped with dirt, oils, etc.

Zinc (type of vitamin) is the one of the best things you can use to get rid of pimples. You can buy these almost about any large store (such as Wal-Mart or Shaws.) Have one tablet per day and try to cut down the junk food and replace it with vegetables and fruits. Drink lots of water and don%26#039;t pop you acne. Popping acne can lead to acne scars.

If you have sensitive skin, don%26#039;t use make up. Some of the things in make up can clog your pores and cause pimples. Keep your hands out of your face as much as you can because you hands a full of bacteria and oils.|||yes, go to a dermatologist..... they can%26#039;t prescribe bc, and if your not sexual active i wouldnt go that way....

there are many many things a derm can try---- from dermabrasion to topical meds to oral med%26#039;s.....

find a good one and go, you wont be sorry.|||I am 27 and still get breakouts! The best thing I ever did was go to a dermatologist. If you dont want to I will tell you what he put me on and it work for you, hopefully as good as it helped me! Fist, buy the Neutrogena Acne kit! It comes with a face wash polich and a day cream and a night cream. Use it exactly as directed! 3 x a week, take an ice cube andrub it all over your face until melted. it closes up your pores and make any acne you have, smaller and less red. ( It works the way you would put ice on a swollen ankle!!!-) And buy cetaphil face wash ( all these things at your local drugstore) and use that every morning! It will make your face so soft! If dryness occurs, just buy a non comedegenic moisterizer and make sure all the make up products you use are noncomedegenic! It will say it right on the box. All Almay and neutrogena products are great and if you spend a little more- CLINIQUE make up is great!

Good Luck!

PS. ASking your DR for RETINA-A Mico .25 also is great- but I would only do that after you tried what I said!|||Dematologists are exspensive and most of time they can%26#039;t help. I recommend using Burts Bees Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. Though I have only been using it for about a month now. My skin is the cleanest and clearest it has ever been. Its all natural and they don%26#039;t test on animals and after you use it I swear you face will feel amazingly clean. Keep with it every night and your skin should be clear fast. It is also rather inexspensive for the amazing work it does on your skin. If you don%26#039;t want to buy online. You can buy it at Target or Ulta. Good luck

Should i go to a dermatologist ? (have you gone)?

Okay so i have large pores, combination skin (oily in the T zone with dry spots) and I have a few tiny pimples like little dots

and i hate them, and then i usualy have some redder ones

in the WORST places, my mom said she just wants me to go to the dermatoloiigst because shes tired of buying tons of oxy stuff for me. And i have a problem with being extremly self concious and so if i have a pimple.. im not going to school.

so should i go ? and would they ask me about my skin or what ?|||Yes go to the dermotologist! They will be able to fix your skin so that you will very rarely get a pimple. They will just ask you some questions about your skin and where you usually get pimples, etc. and they they will just look at your skin and examine your pimples and that%26#039;s it. Nothing to be self conscious about at all. good luck!|||If I were you, I definitely would go to a dermatologist. They will prescribe something that might clear your skin up. If it doesn%26#039;t work, you can see if you can get something else at another appointment. Sometimes things work and other times they don%26#039;t (I%26#039;ve tried about 5 different persciptions before I found one that worked for me). You%26#039;ll have to make sure you%26#039;re responsible enough to remember and have time to do what your dermatologist wants you to do because if you%26#039;re on a prescription that you only use once a week, you%26#039;ll be paying tons of money for something that%26#039;s not working.|||You should go to see a dermatologist. I have had chronic body acne for years. You%26#039;re best bet is to go to a doctor and ask for some medication, that works sometimes or you could go to see a dermatologist and they might be able to tell you a lot more than a doctor would. Should I go to the dermatologist?

I%26#039;m 20, never had real serious acne. Just breakouts here and there, typically during that time of the month. However, in the past year or so, I%26#039;ve had more breakouts, usually around the chin area. The pimples go away, but the redness and the bumps dont. So although theres no %26#039;head%26#039; on the pimple, its still fairly obvious and takes work to cover up. Ive tried everything, spot treatments and all. I wash my face at least twice a day and they just wont go away. Any suggestions or should I just bite the bullet and head to the dermatologist and see what he can do?|||Just go. |||Try a low carb diet. Yes, food can affect acne in the worst of ways. Any dermatologist who says otherwise is behind on the times... food can influence your hormones and your androgens which control your sebum production. Give low-carb diet an honest shot. You get to eat awesome foods also (eggs, bacon, heavy whipping cream, all meats, nuts, etc.).|||Nah you%26#039;re hormones are just fluctuating. i get pimples right before my period!

just use a cleanser with NO OIL and make sure it says it won%26#039;t clog your pores.|||You could have what they call Rosacea there is treatment but a Dermotologist is required.

So I went to the dermatologist...?

He perscribed me Benzaclin, Doxycline, %26amp;%26amp; Ziana. He also told me to wash my face with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash.

I have no clue what to do, but what I%26#039;ve been doing so far is:

Washing my face in the morning with the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, then putting the Ziana on my forehead like he told me to. I%26#039;m not sure wether to put the Benza Clin on the rest of my face, because it says to apply it twice a day on the label *shrugs*

and at night I wash my face again %26amp;%26amp; apply the benzaclin all over my face like he told me to.

%26amp;%26amp; I take the Doxycline before dinner.

Should I apply the Benzaclin twice a day? After putting the Ziana on my forehead, should I just put it on the rest of my face?

How long should my face take to clear up ?

%26amp;%26amp; I know I%26#039;m not supposed to, but I had a really bad day today and I took it out on the little zits on my forehead, and now they%26#039;re all red :[[ are they going to turn into zits, or should the redness go down by tomorrow morning?

and most importantly, how long should my mild/moderate acne take to clear up with this stuff?

Thanks so much ! %26lt;3|||I%26#039;ve been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it%26#039;s at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I%26#039;m 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I%26#039;ve ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It%26#039;s unique cause of it%26#039;s herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn%26#039;t work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.|||take accuatane it%26#039;s the best:) ask your dermatoligist about it. it%26#039;s guaranteed to clear up your acne in one trial period (5-7 months).

what i%26#039;ve found with pimples/blackheads/whiteheads, is that you should never pop them if you are about to go to school cause then your face will be all red, if you do it then do it.

to avoid any further problems wash your hands before you decide to touch your face cause if you don%26#039;t you cause more oil from your hands to go onto your face and make you break out more. wash your hands after eating cause most people tend to touch their face after eating which is really bad for you face.

Take Care and God Bless !|||From the symptoms and concerns you state, it seems as though you should see a naturopathic doctor. I know for a fact that natural and/or holistic doctors will see you as a person, as a whole. They are doctors that will treat you and your ailments, not just your ailments.

I am not telling you what to do, but I would suggest that you look up holistic doctors in your area online. There should be (someone) a holistic/ natural doctor- they will treat you physically, mentally, and spiritually.|||You might try tea tree oil. It is available over the counter in holistic health stores and some drug stores. You just apply it sparingly to the affected areas. If it is irritating you can dilute it with water as suggested in the link below. Before starting a regimen with tea tree oil I would suggest you go online and research it first.

Considering what you have already gone through I don%26#039;t think trying it could be harmful and it could help. I hope so.

Should i go to a dermatologist???? ANd i need info on it....?

My face isnt covered with acne but my face has never been totally clear and im getting sick of it. Some of it is painful too.

My mom is like a health freak and she is opposed to it because she thinks that all they will do is give me steriods.

She thinks that if i go get a facial and use pro active it will clear up...it seems like alot more work and money than just going to see a Drem.

all my friends who%26#039;ve had this issue with their face goes to a drem. and within like 3 weeks their faces are clear....im so jealous.

can some with experience give me some ideas and facts to make my mom feel better for taking me?!?!

thanks|||Oh my mother is the same thing and I went to a dermatologist anyway and my skin was flawless in a matter of months. It is not necessarily steroids they put you on, the treatment all depends on what%26#039;s causing your breakouts. Sometimes it%26#039;s anti biotics, sometimes it%26#039;s changing the products you use on your skin. Proactiv I wasn%26#039;t thrilled with, it destroyed my sheets and my clothes and to be quite honest didn%26#039;t deliver like they promised, I still had breakouts. Proactiv has so many chemicals in it, Benzoyle Peroxide, Salicylic acid among other things, if your mom%26#039;s arugment against the derm is all the meds you%26#039;ll get, you%26#039;re exposed to more using Proactiv.

Wart on eyelid. Advice for dermatologist in Toronto or any other remedies?

I have a wart on my lower eyelid.

I went to the dermatologist already and he said it is called a filiform wart. He suggested to cut it off, but I heard that there were ways to remove them by freezing, burning, or laser. He also told me that there will be a scar.

I live in Toronto, ON, and was wondering if anyone knows a good dermatology centre that removes warts through these methods, and preferably without a scar?

Or some remedies I could try at home to get rid of it?|||If you want to remove your wart, I suggest you read this revolutionary success story:

The condition of my face now is I have mild acne and not so many acne but it got redness even in the red spot, I dont have any acne but still red on it. What will I ask guys for those who visited already a Dermatologist. Is visiting Dermatologist will help me alot? I hope so .. HELP !|||You tell them exactly what%26#039;s your problem. Explain how long your acne%26#039;s lasted and maybe what you did to try and get rid of it. Just like a doctor, a dermatologist is a doctor for skin...just tell her or him and let them ask you things to but don%26#039;t ask unnecessary things because the longer the consultation the more expensive it%26#039;s going to be so make sure you jump to the problem and don%26#039;t chat.

Should i go to a dermatologist? (pic included)?

I have suffered from acne since i was 12, and it has destroyed my teenage years for me. My self-esteem was lost forever, and i have no confidence whatsoever. I am 17 now, and i really don%26#039;t want to graduate with a faceful of acne. I want to go to college with a clear face :( Do you think a dermatologist could cure me? Would it be very expensive? i have tried everything from over the counter products and my general practitioner. nothing helped.

Please help. and no degrading, insulting comments. I already feel bad enough as it is :(

horrible acne.|||Hey,Pinkylicious. I won%26#039;t insult you,I promise. I wouldn%26#039;t go to a dermatologist,Unless you think it would help. These doctors can charge you for something you can do on your own. Acne is sometimes triggered by stress. Do you use anything for your face? I use either Noxema Skin Cream or %26quot;Clean%26amp;Clear%26quot; Facial Cleanser. My face has cleared up and I look fine. Perhaps they can do the same for you. Also,Try to avoid greasy foods. Take it easy and God bless. Bye for now. p.s. You don%26#039;t look so bad to me.|||No, you have okay acne. It won%26#039;t hurt, but I think Proactiv or a face scrub will help.

For easy things you can do now:

Drink more water.

Wash pillowcase. (helped me, it traps oil and dirt so wash it!)

Wash with warm water and exfoliate.

Moisturize, even if you have oily skin. It will hydrate, causing less oil.

Shower every day.|||Try proactive, It actually works! Also try exfoliating your skin about 2 times a week to get rid of dead skin cells to prevent a few future breakouts. Dont use makeup remover pads also, I used to wear them and had terrible breakouts and when I stopped using as much makeup and didnt use makeup remover pads, my skin cleared. Putting vinagar on your skin can clear acne also (might sting though). Also, Putting raw sliced avacado on your skin works well. Garlic works AMAZING for clearing acne!

%26lt;3|||Yes, why should you have to suffer needlessly. I went to a dermatologist when I was 17 suffering from cystic acne and it was the best thing I ever did. They know exactly what treatments are effective and will monitor your progress to see what works and what doesn%26#039;t.

Good luck : )|||i would highly suggest a dermatologist, they will be able to identify what products will help you.

so yes, you should definitely go!

proactive does work good for me though.

my one friend went to a dermatologist and they gave her pills, it cleared up her acne so good!|||If it really bugs you that badly, yes I would go to a dermatologist. Prevention of acne: 1st web link

If that doesn%26#039;t work, you can then try the following chemicals before visiting a doctor.

Proactive: 2nd web link

One of my students may have used this and he had acne like super bad. I believe his acne was brought on my his nervous condition. His father was a serious problem in his life. As he aged beyond 19, his stress level disappeared and his acne finally disappeared if this gives you hope for the future. I believe his stress level disappeared once he had a chance to make enough money after his training was complete with me and he moved away from the stress he was experiencing at home. I am not sure of your situation as far as where the stress is coming from if you are experiencing stress at all but taking control in that area I believe is an important part of your problem for anyone experiencing a acne problem. Regardless, I also think he said he tried Accutane, but I am not sure, its been around 9 years ago since I taught him.

Accutane: 3rd web link

I would venture to say that you may have to try the two different products before you can determine which one is best for %26quot;YOU%26quot; should you decide to take this course of action. Control carefully what you eat in order to improve your chances of success.

Best Wishes|||Ok, You have moderate to severe acne. My back is just like ur face hun so i know what you feel like. Go to your doctor first and ask for clindamycin-benzoyl peroxide gel. It comes in a jar or tube. I have been using it for two month consistently and my acne has cleared up a whole lot. I literally have only ONE bump. If your doctor cant prescribe this for you (which i doubt) go to a dermatologist. This will boost your self-esteem and make your skin look great. All you have to do is wash your face twice a day and apply the cream right after washing it twice a day. I recommend twice because of the amount of acne. even when it gets better use it twice a day. It costs me $30 a jar so don%26#039;t scoop out a lot when using it. A little goes a long way.

Good Luck girl.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY MOM BRING ME TO A DERMATOLOGIST?

My skin is so horrible now. My whole face is covered with acne. And I don%26#039;t even pop them!! But when they go away I get a dark blemish and they never go away!!! I also have terrible back acne and chest acne!!! I can%26#039;t change in front of anybody in gym ro volleyball ebcause I have so much acne on my back!! I hate it so much and it%26#039;s come to the point where I have so much acne my friend asked me today if I%26#039;m taking care of my skin. I feel like crying because I have so much and all the other girls have barely anything.

I know for sure it%26#039;s my gentics because my older brother has so much acne on his face and back and he still has it he%26#039;s 17. And I know sure it%26#039;s form ym mom because she has so many acne scars on ehr face and back. I%26#039;m only 14 and I have SO MCUH. I have to wear so much foundation just to cover it and it doesn%26#039;t even look good! I just wwant clear smooth skin but my mom won%26#039;t take me to a dermatologist and I don%26#039;t have a job or money. I just want clear skin so bad I have had pimples since GRADE 5 and I started getting bacne in GRADE 7!! PLEASE HELPE ME I need to go on a pill for acne!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!|||Will she take you to your family doctor at all? Because they usually give you referrals, And when being referred that might make your mom realize that this is a bigger issue than she actually believes.. Also you don%26#039;t necessarily need to see a dermatologist, as your family doctor can usually prescribe things to help or even cure the effects before needing the assistance of a specialist..

As much as you would like to take pills in my experience, they don%26#039;t always help and have caused me more nausea and frustration than they have actually helped. Plus some of the medications on the market have some serious side effects and are kind of scary which is maybe what your mom is scared about?

IF the family doctor is out of the question, find over the counter cleansers, and astringents with either benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid.. benzoyl peroxide is helpful as it cleanses the pore to allow oxygen in. It also helps in the ridding the follicle of dead skin cells, which is also what salicylic acid is best known for doing as well. Both of these those dry out your skin, so my suggestion is to first use a cleanser to clean your face, then use an astringent and follow with a hypo-allergenic face lotion. Drying out your skin too much will cause your skin to produce more oil to compensate, causing your pores to clog and creating more acne. So ensure you use a moisturizer!!

Also if you%26#039;re using makeup, use a makeup remover to ensure you get the majority of the gunk of your face, so that your pores can really be cleansed properly.

Lastly.. sometimes just washing your bedding more often can help as your skin is in constant contact with it every night and bacteria can build up!

I hope this is helpful and hopefully your mom come around, if not just know that others have been where you are and sometimes it is something you just have to grow out of! Just keep smiling and try not to stress, stress usually causes breakouts too!

Oh and one last thing.. fake and bake tanning is really not good for your skin at all.. Early morning sun or even real sun is 100 times better for you if you want to try the tanning solution, It sometimes works but your skin is already sensitive enough that exposing yourself is probably not the best solution!!

Good Luck!!|||I understand

I don%26#039;t have acne on my face so much or as severe, but I have had back acne and chest acne since grade 7, and I%26#039;m in grade 10. But it is slowly getting better (it always gets better in the summer though)

My acne gets better when i lie in the sun, it dries it out. Maybe try tanning and in the winter, go to a tanning salon.

I know it%26#039;s bad for your skin, but maybe it will help dry it out

You should confront your mom and just cry and make her see how upset you are about having all the acne.

I knew a girl who had acne like yours, WORSE it was so bad you couldn%26#039;t even see her face. But it went away before high school so there is hope!

Make her see how upset you are and if she still doesn%26#039;t let up, get a job babysitting or anything you can and just pay for it yourself

Also maybe try some over the counter acne medicated cream, or some face wash that contains salycic acid.

I hope this advice helps and I understand how much it sucks to have acne.

Good Luck :)

Should I see a dermatologist, endocrinologist or a gynaecologist? or all of them?

-family history of polycystic ovaries

-otherwise in good health

right now my main concern is the hair loss, im pretty sure its related to my hormones, who should i go see for this, plzz help

thanks so much in advance|||My first stop would be the endocrinology department. The majority of the symptoms you listed feel into that domain (hair pattern loss/growth, acne issues). They may determine at that point to refer you to your OB/GYN. The dermatologist would be the last stop as the acne could be a result from out of whack hormone /gland secretion levels.|||You need a major endocrine work-up.

Seriously.|||It sounds like your best avenue for an accurate diagnosis would be an endocrinologist because it seems like your hormones have gone haywire.|||endocrine, gyno then dermatologist last. sounds like endocrine first, since the sex hormone levels are normal. something has to be out a whack. good luck|||go see a Endo.|||Find a gynecologist that also an endocrinologist. They are hard to find but they are out there. Mine found my low blood sugar problem during my annual %26#039;woman%26#039; check up.|||Dermatologist for hair loss and acne. He or she can do a blood panel to find out if you are low on iron. Which can be a reason that for some types of hair loss and Gyno for routine PAP. Let you the Dermatologist and Gyno know that you have a low/normal range of Estrogen. Do you use Rogaine for women now? It is successful for some to help slow hair loss. Ask your parent/guardian if you have an HMO or PPO for insurance? Your type of insurance may dictate that have to go see the lower level specialist like the Derm or Gyno doc before seeing an Endo.|||Hi Pinkforever, it certainly sounds like you too may have polycystic ovaries.

Along with heavy and / or irregular periods, other signs of PCOS include:

* more severe acne than other girls

* not being able to get pregnant

* high blood pressure

* obesity

* more hair on their face and body (hirsutism - %26#039;her-suit-ism%26#039;)

* thin scalp hair.

You need only see an endocrinologist. Once you have a correct diagnosis, you can get some treatment and start to feel better.

Should i see a dermatologist?

i%26#039;m 14 and i%26#039;ve had acne since i was 11. its a little bit more than moderate and it can be covered up with makeup but i am sooo sick of spending all the time covering it up. i%26#039;ve tried proactiv, neutrogena advanced solutions, stridex ( think thats what its called...those little pad things), and im using clean and clear right now but i dont really think its helping. my face is never totally clear and its starting to take a toll on my confidence. my mom uses proactiv and it works great on her and she gets so frustrated when i tell her it doesnt work for me (and it REALLY dries my skin out).

i only want to see a dermatologist if i HAVE to, mostly because of money, and im scared to ask my mom. do you know how much it costs? AND do you think i should go or do you know other options that may work for me?|||Without insurance it%26#039;s going to be pretty expensive. With, well, might as well ask your mom. But you shouldn%26#039;t see one unless you have really bad acne. At your age, acne is very very common. If you don%26#039;t see it ease up within a few years, then it might be time to see a dermatologist.

Thinking of going to Dermatologist to remove moles....Please help?

Thinking of going to Dermatologist to remove moles....Please help

Ok so i have a few questions about removing 5 moles from my face.

First of all is it normal for a GUY to go to dermatologist to remove moles?

Also how will the moles be removed? Will it hurt? Will it leave a scar?

How much does it cost in Canada to remove 1 mole?

How much time it takes to remove a mole and how much time for recovery?

Please help me guys.

Thanks|||Hey,

It%26#039;s perfectly normal for a guy to go to a dermatologist to remove moles, they aren%26#039;t a unisex profession! They treat men and women and are experts in each field. I have had several moles removed, first it doesn%26#039;t hurt a bit. You are given a local anesthetic at the site of the mole and then it is just sort of scraped off with a scalpel. Then it may need a little stitch or not. It may leave a tiny little scar but it shouldn%26#039;t be that noticeable. The surgery is really quick, like maybe 5-10 mins per mole and the only recovery is the little incision healing, so like about a week.

Go for it!

Dermatologists (Skin Care Doctors)

What are dermatologists?

Dermatologists, or skin care doctors, have expertise in the care of normal skin, as well as in the prevention and treatment of a wide variety of skin diseases, including skin cancers. Dermatologists can also diagnose and treat patients with disorders affecting the hair and nails. In addition, dermatologists are knowledgeable in the management of cosmetic disorders of the skin (such as hair loss and scars).

What do dermatologists do?

Dermatologists often perform specialized diagnostic procedures related to skin conditions. These doctors use treatments including:

Externally applied, injected, and internal medicines

Ultraviolet light therapy

A range of dermatologic surgical procedures

Cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, sclerotherapy (used for conditions like varicose veins) and micro-dermabrasion (a procedure to exfoliate the skin)

Dermatologists might have training and experience in areas such as electrosurgery (surgical use of high-frequency electric current for cutting or destroying tissue), cryosurgery (which involves freezing tissue), laser surgery, and excision surgery (involving removal by cutting) with appropriate closures (including skin grafts).

Certification of dermatologists

The certification process for dermatologists includes a comprehensive examination administered by the American Board of Dermatology. With this background and knowledge, dermatologists are singularly qualified to diagnose and treat a wide variety of dermatologic (skin-related) conditions.

What will happen at dermatologist?

hya i have been reffered to a dermatologist from my doctor for a suspicious mole, i also have over 100 moles all over my body. Will the doctor have to check just the suspicious one or will they have to check them all, if so will this involve being naked (hope not). if they do look at them all do they measure them or photograph them, what actually happens, please help me as i have no idea what to expect when i walk through the door, im 26 and from the england if this helps thanks.|||What happens is the doctor will look at it either just the naked eye or special light that looks like a little flash light. Then if it looks suspicious they will do what is called a biopsy. I had one done on the side of my head i admit i was nervous but they give you a little shot which you don%26#039;t even feel and then they remove it. Mine was removed with a scalpel. They do use a little round metal thing to measure it so if they need to go back to the same spot months later they know exactly where it is. Then they send it out which can takes weeks to get the results. Not every mole they say is suspicious is in fact anything at all. Better to be safe than sorry. My mom was recently diagnosed with skin cancer and it was caught in time so please do get this done. And i would suggest getting a female dr. that way you%26#039;ll be more comfortable with showing her where a certain mole might be. Believe me i had a bad appointment with a male derm and i got rid of him right away. Either way if they do find something and it isn%26#039;t good or if skin cancer runs in your family they tend to do full body checks and be more careful.|||I go to the dermatologist every 6 months. Nothing bad will happen, they would like you to dress just in knickers and bra to check all your moles over your body, they will use a magnifying glass to check the mole thoroughly for any suspicious colours, or scabbing, etc. You may not see it on the outside, but you can in the inside, which is why they do that. If they check for a mole that%26#039;s a little suspicious, they will cut it off, they use a freezing nitrogen injection (hurts a little) and cut the mole and send it off for a biopsy. If you think your moles have been changing, they will take a picture of them and measure it and tell you to come back in a month%26#039;s time to see for any changes that needs evaluating. Seriously, it%26#039;s not that bad :)|||i went to a dermatologist for acne problems and they checked out all my moles. yes i had to reveal some skin but they had a female nurse be present.(I have a mole under my boob and a birthmark on my butt) then i had a mole removed from my scalp b/c it was suddenly bothering me. they numb the area and use like this cookie cutter type tool to take it off. didn%26#039;t hurt none at all. its not a big deal. no worries.

dont be afraid to ask for a female nurse to be present if needed. sorry not sure if your female or not....
