Do I need to see a dermatologist for my acne?

I%26#039;ve had moderate acne on my back and face since I was about 11. I%26#039;m concerned because I%26#039;m now almost 18, and I don%26#039;t seem to be outgrowing it. I wash and moisturize my face every day, eat a healthy diet, and take a daily multivitamin. I only use noncomedogenic products and makeup. Acne gets worse near my period, and sometimes I get very painful pimples on my back. I%26#039;ve tried over-the-counter topical treatments like Proactiv, but they never work. Do I need to see a dermatologist, or is this normal?|||I%26#039;ve had this same exact problem since I was 11 as well (I%26#039;m almost 20 now). I went to a dermatologist when I was 12 for another problem and they saw my face (I didn%26#039;t think anything of my acne at that time) and prescribed a clear ointment. Let me tell you, that ointment did absolutely NOTHING. I eventually experimented some over-the-counter solutions over the years like Clean and Clear, Oxy pads, St. Ives scrubs, Aveeno pads, some Noxzema products, and many others. I have to admit that out of all of them Oxy pads worked quite well. I did have a habit of squeezing pimples and blackheads though so it left significant scarring which nothing so far has been able to help. But if you need help with only acne, then please try using Oxy pads. I%26#039;ve never tried ProActive or Accutane so I can%26#039;t tell you how that works, but you might want to check that out too. If the OTC solutions do not work, then you should check out a dermatologist and see what they would recommend. Honestly though, I still think a lot of over-the-counter products work the best for moderate acne (if it%26#039;s severe, I think doctors give you birth control pills)|||Don%26#039;t take risks. Just see a dermatologist.

I want to be a Cosmetic Dermatologist?!?

Hello. I have a lot of questions. Help me?

Basic

- how much is the cost of going to a dermatology school?

- what courses must be taken in H.S. and what to major in college?

- what are the top 5 dermatology schools?

Salary?

- monthly?

- yearly?

Work

- highest payed jobs in the field of dermatology?

- what cities would be good to work at?

Thanks for your help. If you can%26#039;t answer all of these, just answer a couple. I am in 8th grade right now and have a 3.6 gpa. I will be in high school next year and I am trying for a 4.0gpa right now cause I know I%26#039;ll need it..|||Hi--you don%26#039;t go to dermatology school, you go to MEDICAL school. A dermatologist is a physician. SO you would need to get through high school %26amp; apply to a good undergrad university %26amp; major in a pre-med type curricula (physics, calculus, lots of chemisty etc); take the med school admission exam (MCAT) and if you do well, apply to med school. That is 4 years and about $200,000. Then you need to match to a dermatology residency; THEN you take advanced training in cosmetics. Since you are about 16 years away from all this; salary is moot--who knows what this will be like by then (BTW its spelled PAID--if you want to go to med school you must spell correctly).

Good luck for the road!|||in h.s. you have to take chemistry and maybe biology ,from 100,000 up to....... depends on if its private or a public.major in college is any kind of science, but choose chemistry. not too sure about how much it will cost.

I need to talk to a dermatologist, please help? pics?

My life is seriousl over. I have had these deep red acne marks for about 3 years.. they fade for like a week and then deepen again put will not go away. I need some advice. I%26#039;m so embarrassed of them! I have to wear 3 layers of makeup to cover them up! I can%26#039;t go swimming or anything because I%26#039;m so embarrassed someone will see them. Please, please help. My family can%26#039;t afford a dermatologist because it%26#039;s not covered by our insurance..

Here%26#039;s some pics.. its ONLY ON MY CHEEKS!!!! :(

They%26#039;re not that good..

It looks like I have acne! But there%26#039;s NO BUMPS. It%26#039;s just flat redness :(

Here%26#039;s me when I DO have makeup on..

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/psycho_bird/100_0159.jpg

you can%26#039;t tell.. but the thing is I HATE MAKEUP. I HATE WEARING MAKEUP. I HATE PUTTING IT ON.. and I have to wear 3 layers to fully cover it.|||i%26#039;d be more concerned about that piece of metal growing out of your lip........try oxiclean|||first of don%26#039;t do all that makeup which you do while going out for hiding it from others it really reduces the effect of the antiseptics or antibiotics which you use,

try Ultra Clearasil i may reduce that marks

some normal preventions you should take are that,

you should wash your face daily 3 to 4 times with water %26amp; and may be reduce some heavy %26amp;oily diet.

YOU REALLY LOOK BEAUTIFUL my DEAR take care of your face.|||your acne is not even that bad.

Try investing in a three step acne system. If $ is an issue go generic.

Wash in the AM and PM and never skip a step.

Acne wash, toner (witch hazel) and spot treat that area with acne cream.

In a matter of about two weeks I bet it%26#039;s much better.

Drink more water. The redness could be another issues called Rosecea.|||Try some Neosporin.|||you look better with the acme marks, I hate that stupid look you do with your mouth.|||Well, I%26#039;m a dermatologist, but I%26#039;m not exactly sure what you want me to suggest for you, as you don%26#039;t want to go to one of us. You have some telangiectasias on your cheeks, as well as some %26quot;post inflammatory erythema%26quot;. So, what does that mean? It means that you have some enlarged blood vessels on your cheeks, as well as some dilated vessels, probably as a result of having had acne in the area. Generally, the telangiectasia will be permanent, without treatment, but the post inflammatory redness tends to fade in time. (not always, as in n your case). There is no over the counter remedy, other than some of the green based cosmetics to cover it up. A dermatologist would treat you with either a laser treatment or with IPL light treatment.

Which would you rather be - a dermatologist, an actuary, or a software engineer?

I am currently in college and trying to figure out which major I want to do.

Pros/Cons of each:

Dermatologist -

Pros: highest salary ($200,000 - 300,000), high prestige.

Cons: $200,000 of debt for med school bills, 4 years of med school plus 3-5 years of residency. hardest residency to obtain out of all the specialties.

Actuary:

Pros: you control your advances and have much flexibility in career prospects. Very easy to obtain job (actuaries are in high demand) and can work after graduating with an undergrad degree. Can reach six figure salary ($150,000+) if you become an actuary fellow.

Cons: You don%26#039;t make as much money as dermatologists.

Software engineer:

Pros: good career prospects, interesting subject matter, more casual work environment than those of actuaries or dermatologists. Can try to get a start-up and make new and innovative products.

Cons: You don%26#039;t make as much money as dermatologists or actuaries (median salary is about $85,000).

There are also the factors of stress level and career satisfaction.

I am currently double majoring in Computer Science and Statistics and am wondering if I should add in pre-med requirements to my schedule.|||I think you should be an actuary. I actually want to be one too. They make good enough money without having to go to school for that long. They earn while they learn instead of paying to learn ( going to med school) so you wont have debts. And 6 figures is pretty good...i think you can live well off that.. you will survive with less than $300k a year...no biggie. Do what you like to do and what suits your skills. Good Luck !|||My uncle is an actuary and he is 47 years old. He could retire right now if he wanted to. He lives in a huge house. No joke.|||hi there! ;o)

honest opinion.... Dermatologist by FAAAAR

think about it .... yes you have a lot of study fees to pay off .... but, your work will consist of not just analyzing skin conditions and working out vaccines etc .... but you will have the opportunity to further build your career in research .... something meaningfull .... something always interesting and there are so many fields to choose from .... but that%26#039;s just me ....

oh and yes the residency and all will most propably be the hardest .... but its worth it .... it%26#039;ll pay off in the long run .... all of it....

Skin goes good when going to dermatologist?

well, im going to the dermatologistt on wednesdayy for my skin, i get pimpless and im going to go see him so i can go on roaccutane.

my skin goes through stages where it goes good for a few days and then goes alright, then goes really bad and my luckkk it is going through a really good stage, and i need to get roaacutane, my mum went on it she understands its dangeourous but she says i need it cause we have tried everything out there all the medications from doctors he said the next thing is roaccutaine, how will i convince him thaaat my skin goess really baddd ? so that i can get it ? orr how can i make my skin worsee for a few days ? xo|||could be hormonal with it going through cycles like that. Maybe you could see your gyno sooner and try the pill and see if stabilizing your hormones helps.|||Live near a KFC? Buy some Chicken. Don%26#039;t eat it. Rub it on your face.

.... i%26#039;m not kidding.

Live near some dirt? Rub that on your face.

Wash your face everyday? don%26#039;t.|||I%26#039;d suggest rescheduling for a date that you think your skin will turn for the worse again, instead of forcing it to look bad.

What exactly causes a acne breakout? Dermatologist?

I eat chocolate once a week. I wash my face twice a day. I don%26#039;t drink soda. I%26#039;m not stressed out. I change my pillow covers. I don%26#039;t touch my face with dirty hands so..WTF why do I keep getting blackhead/whiteheads and blimeshes?? These pimpels turn into blackspots and it makes me soo self-consciois. And it%26#039;s not only on my face it%26#039;s on my chest too. So would I have to get some oral/eternal acne medication for this? Proactiv is TRASH !! Neutragena = Trash. Nozema = Trash. So would a dermatologist appointment be needed to get some good pills/cream?|||I%26#039;ve been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it%26#039;s at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I%26#039;m 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I%26#039;ve ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It%26#039;s unique cause of it%26#039;s herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn%26#039;t work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.|||Acne is a change in the body,s chemistry and happens to about 95% of teenagers. Your hygiene is o.k best go to your gp and see if they can give some other treatment. As you get a little older it should clear up by itself.

Tell Me More About Being a Dermatologist?

I am getting too old to be goofing off anymore (27) and I am contemplating dermatology as one of the possible career paths. Honestly, it seems like the best path to take for a medical-based field.

- I know insurance is a real killer for many doctors, but how high could it be for a dermatologist?

- Hours must be great as what possible kind of emergency can there be?

- It seems to be a very flexible and technologically-adaptable field what with all of the cosmetic procedures they handle.

I am sure I probably sound naive - and that is because I am - so tell me what I am missing. Excluding the obvious (school, costs, great salary, etc) what are some drawbacks and positives of the field? A few months ago, I had a rash on my armpit, so I went to see my local dermatologist. He looked at it for all of 90 seconds, told me a story, gave me some sample creams, and it went away. I gave him $125. I like that kinda work.

P.S. Spare me the %26quot;you%26#039;ll look at and touch icky skin and hair.%26quot;|||you would have to go to medical school

admission to medical schools is very, very competitive.

if you don%26#039;t already have a 4-year undergrad degree...that is your first step. If you do, then look into doing a post-bacclaurate program to fulfull pre-med requirements

-you have to study for and take the mcat which is a 5 hour and 20 min exam that tests skills in biology , inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, and verbal reasoning.

you then apply to med school, and if your scores/grades are awesome, you might get an interview somewhere.

if this goes well, you may be granted admission to a medical school.

then you work your butt off in medical school, and if you are really smart/lucky, and are among the top in your class, you might match for the most competitive residency which is dermatology...(you need to do incredibly well on your USLME step one and step two )

so im not sure how long a derm residency is, but estimating 4 years,

if you start now from the beginning, you can make it happen in like 12 years.

Acne has gotten bad. go to dermatologist or keep trying over the counter stuff?

Acne does not run in my family.

My sister has it bad on her back, but a few here and there on her face (shes 18)

i%26#039;m younger than her so it still might be a phase...but it has gotten so bad where my face is all red, bumpy, and oily. (i know, disgusting, sorry.)

I%26#039;ve tried alot of over the counter stuff, like:

acne-free terminator

Clean and Clear creams and other topicals

alot more..i just can%26#039;t remember.

I%26#039;ve also used Proactiv, which worked really well for about 2 months...then all of the sudden it stopped working...i had more breakouts then usually and it just wasn%26#039;t helping.

After i stopped using Proactiv because it didn%26#039;t seem to be doing anything anymore, it just keeps on getting worse.

Now I%26#039;m using Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Kit...it%26#039;s my second day using it and I%26#039;ve really haven%26#039;t seen results. I know I should give it time, but do you think it%26#039;s about time to give up and just see a dermatologist?

please give your best opinion.

xo thanks.|||I%26#039;d go to the dermatologist-- Just to find out EXACTLY what%26#039;s going on so you can get treatment and medical advice.|||i have to go there i would go there. if they suggest a brand that%26#039;s like ctaphel i didn%26#039;t spell it right but it is something like that it doesn%26#039;tt work well at all.tea tree oil will def help well the soap its a bar at the health food store.

Do i need to see a dermatologist? (pictures)?

Hey i was talking to my grandom and she CONSTANTLY nags on me to go see a dermatologist..not because of acne. I barely have any and i just started to use proactiv...anyway i have these little beuty marks on my face as you can see in the picture and she wants me to make an appointment and see if i can get them removed..But the thing is.what will it look like after? like im afraid of them screwing up or me getting a permanent scar. Anyone know the procedures?

I need some advice about a dermatologist appointment....?

ok so im going into the dermatologist either this week or next week (it depends when my mom scheduals it.) and i was wondering 1. do they do any tests to see if you have hyperhidrosis because I think I have that? 2. do they wright you antiperspirants stronger then certain dri?

I dnt wanna get botox or surgery for it. Im wanting antiperspirants stronger then certain dri (because certain dri only recuces my sweating) do you have any suggestions??? thnx im actually excited about going in to take care of my sweating problem. and I would really appreciate if you could answer my questions! : )|||when you go to the doctor talk to him/her about your concerns. and i do believe that there are prescription deodorants out there. have you ever tried using the clinical strength ones? but any thing you think you should be tested for if you bring it up to the doctor they have an obligation to check it out

Acne help, worth going to a dermatologist?

Hi folks. So I%26#039;ll get right to the point, I%26#039;m male, I%26#039;m 18, and I%26#039;ve had mild to moderate acne for about 3 to 4 years now. I hate it. It hits my self confidence hard, as you%26#039;d expect.

Lately, it%26#039;s still present, but not as much as before. It%26#039;s almost only present on the sides of my face, right beside my eyes. A little on my forehead too, but not much.

The pimples can be annoying, especially when some, though rare, can hurt. Now, I%26#039;m curious to know if going to a dermatologist will help me much? I%26#039;m not sure if I%26#039;m covered under medical insurance here (Canada) and if not, it would likely be expensive just to go in once.

I also have some acne scarring, which is very apparent because I have a fair complexion.

See, I%26#039;m meeting this girl, for the first time, this summer. Long story short, it involves flirting, a bicylce, roughly 1,200 miles, and warm summer air. I know I%26#039;m exciting and fun and charming and my facial figures are totally cute, but the acne... is hard to get passed for me.

I really want to cure it, as much as I can, before I meet her.|||See your GP - my brother, at the same age (he%26#039;s now 21), had very similar problems to yourself with acne. Our GP put him on legal steroids (unfortunately I cannot remember what they are called), and though he had to stay out of the sun while on them, his skin cleared up extremely well within a couple of weeks.

If your GP has nothing for you, then yes, I suggest you see a dermatologist.

Does anyone know of a decent dermatologist in Sydney(metro nsw) that can help a guys in his 20鈥檚 about acne, p

Are there dangers associated with going to just anyone for facial/exfoliation/masks or peels? Do they have to be qualified/certified?

Is it true that after a facial, the skin could react the next with pimples before it settles down?

was taking him to chinatown in sydney

I%26#039;m just worried that dermatologist that prescribe peroxide alcohol or whatever it was callled and expect us to trial n error.|||You might want to skip the trial and error and go right to a routine that won%26#039;t dry out your skin, make it %26#039;worse%26#039; before better and get rid of the acne with nothing more than honey, baking soda, oats and coconut oil. Click my picture to go to my profile and then the link under %26#039;free natural acne routine%26#039;. It takes you to an article on Associated Content that shows you how to use those four simple ingredients to get rid of acne. The article quotes studies from the US National Library of Medicine - links are included so you can verify the information as factual.

Enjoy!|||Actually by looking for someone whom you don%26#039;t know is qualified or has produced amazing results for treating acne, you are putting yourself in a trial and error position. This could lead your acne to become worse just in case the treatment from the dermato you choose is ineffective. So I would recommend you go for some OTC products for treating acne from the best in the world. Try zenmed%26#039;s derma cleanse system a natural formula for treating acne straight from the source and at the same time keeping your skin healthy and nourished.

Penis problems...should I see a dermatologist?

Things haven%26#039;t been the same down there since my case of balanitis. A few slighlty patchy spots (that arent noticeable) were left behind on the glans. Near the frenulum / underneath the foreskin are a series of white dots that my urologist thought might be just some inflammation or something. Now, today right before a shower I noticed an itch and saw a darkish spot on the ridge of my glans and some other small things that dont seem right. Its itchy down there and kind of burns. I am not sexually active.

Should I see a dermatologist? The urologists don%26#039;t seem to understand whats going on with the outside. I planned on having a circumcision but don%26#039;t think I should until I get this sorted out...

I should also add that I don%26#039;t think its anything like cancer, because the area that is darkish doesnt change that color until its exposed for a bit. So it%26#039;s not some lesion thats constantly there. The itch, burn, and need to urinate is though.

This is embarrassing.|||A urologist would probably have more of an idea than a dermatologist. Just go back and say that it%26#039;s not inflammation and to check again.

Dermatologists tend to deal more with skin in general than any one specific area. And while they might know what it is, it%26#039;s not gonna be anything your urologist wouldn%26#039;t know about. The early symptoms do seem more like inflammation than anything else, but doctors are more like umpires than anything else- they call them how they see them. They can%26#039;t diagnose something if there%26#039;s no symptoms to suggest it, and symptoms progress, so what may seem like one thing one week may turn into something else the next.

Just go back to your doctor and tell him it%26#039;s worse. No reason not to, I PROMISE you, they see things far more embarrassing than anything you could show them on a daily basis.|||Being uncircumcised can come with it%26#039;s problems, you could have the male equivalent to a yeast infection. Try extra hard to keep it dry in there and buy an over-the-counter cream for yeast infections.|||Well, you got nothing to be embarrassed about i%26#039;d consider going back to the Urologist and Dermatologist and maybe consider a Circumcision.

Would you continue to go to Dermatologist your sisters don't like?

I go to a dermatologist for acne %26amp; recommended her to my sisters. They don%26#039;t seem to like her. I think one reason is she does not remove spots that are nothing. She looks at them %26amp; knows they are nothing so she doesn%26#039;t remove them. I guess their first impression was no bedside manner - or would like a doctor to explain what the spot is, why you have it, %26amp; maybe remove it for tests. I like her %26amp; she is is with Colombia University Dermatology. Now, I feel like I made a bad choice in doctors because they don%26#039;t like her. I have some spots which she looked at at said where nothing %26amp; you%26#039;ll have them for the rest of your life- now I am thinking why didn%26#039;t I want to go to another doctor that would remove them %26amp; do test.|||Take a look at why they dont like her. Some people will love a Dr others hate. See her....if YOU dont like her then see someone else.....your are not stuck with her once you see her. Some people jsut have different personalities and attitudes toward treating different things, so a Dr good for one person isnt for another

What's the difference between a dermatologist and a facialist? AND wat is a Estheticians ALSO wats the price?

Hii

i am almost 16 and I have mild acne..and when its that time of the month i break out a little more. I REALLy want to go see a doctor that can guide me to a specific skincare regime for my skin to get rid of the acne because my friend goes to one and her skin is flawless!!! I was wondering..everybody is saying that if u have acne problems go to a derm but my friend says she gets her skincare regime from a facialist?? PLEASE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE..and also i%26#039;ve read about estheticians..what exactly are they??

also my mom says im way too young to go to these things...she said im just havin teenage breakout..am i realli too young? i just want to know a good skincare regime..i dont want to visit them monthly or anithing..

last question!! oo also what is the price of going to one sessionn? i live in canada..so i would like to know the price and alsooo if the health insurance covers some?? O AND PLEASE SUGGEST PLACES IN TORONTO ^^

thankyou|||A dermatologist is a Dr as in they went to medical school. A facialist is probably the same thing as an esthetician (I%26#039;ve never heard that term before) they generally do facials, waxings and other spa treatments, they DID NOT go to medical school although they should have had some professional training from some sort of cosmology school. They can generally give good advice and a facial can be a great thing to help clear up little break outs, I visit a spa and get facials about twice a month. However, I have such severe skin problems that I still need the help of a dermatolgist who can write a Rx for what I need.

Insurance might cover a dermatologist, 99% chance they will not cover the other two as they are not medical professionals.

As for which you need, they can all be expensive, if your skin isn%26#039;t that bad try going to a spa and getting an acne facial, my place charges about $60 for the one hour facial. They can give you advice on what skin care to follow. If after a few months that doesn%26#039;t work then try going for the Dr. Your mom may be right and you may grow out of it but until then try and make her understand how much this is effecting you, if she doesn%26#039;t want to spend the money then save up and pay for it yourself.

As to your friend, she may not be genetically prone to get pimples, it might not be that she goes to see anyone just her DNA. Choosing future job? Anyone doctor/surgen/dermatologist? help?

In CALM class my classmates and i have to chose a job that interest us and to spend the rest of our life in it. It is very hard to chose since im only in grade 10, but i chose to be a dermatologist becaouse of interested in helping poeple. But i always wonder, is university and medical school hard? is it very hard to be a dermatologist? please help!! im in grade 10 and i have to chose somthing that will infleunce me for the rest of my life! does anyone have any experince with medical school or ones that are docters that are similar to dermatologist, please give me adice and suggestions|||hey i wanna be a dermatologist as well. of course medical school is gonna be hard, even for 4.0 GPA students. Becoming any kind of doctor will be hard and it is also a very long way, but at the end it will be worth it.|||Are you serious? Dermatologists are medical specialists with medical degrees and at least four years of training after medical school. Dermatology is a very competitive residency and you must be at the top of your medical school to get a position. No offense, but unless your written communications skills improve demonstrably, you have no chance.

Do I need to see a dermatologist about this? Scar/pimple.?

I naturally have good skin, but once and a while I%26#039;ll get a pimple. I got one on my chin a few weeks ago, and I picked at it by accident. ( I know I shouldn%26#039;t but I did it absentmindedly).

Now there is a dark red spot that has not faded after two weeks, even though I have washed my face well.

Should I see a dermatologist or does anyone have any suggestions that are much quicker/easier?

Thank you.|||Probably, i%26#039;ve never heard of anything like that so it would be a good idea.|||Any time that you have a skin growth or mole that is changing, you should see a dermatologist. Skin cancer affects 40 percent of all Americans at some point during their lives.

What to do to be a dermatologist?

1. what high school classes would help? (anatomy? physics? chem? or any specific AP?)

2. what would be your undergraduate major? (biology? or premedicine? or...w/e)

please explain the detailed steps and years it would take. ( i know :

4 years undergrad

4 years MD (masters)

1 year internship

2 -3 year residency

and something else i forgot

but what about those like residency? what is that? and in that %26#039;timeline%26#039; when do you actually start seeing patients.

4. ANYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT DERMATOLOGY WOULD HELP

thanks in advance =]

P.S. if this helps im a sophomore in HS. |||Yes, all the science classes you can get into. You do not major in pre-med: that is just the set of courses you take for med school. You can major in anything, its just easier to major in bio or chem since so many of the pre-reqs are in those majors. You pretty much have the years %26amp; steps correct; although the 4 years in med school gets you a doctorate degree not a masters. Your 1 year internship is in general medicine. You actually see general patients starting in med school and that continues all through internship %26amp; residency. You always have an attending doctor to back you up ; but the further you are in the training, the more you actually practice on your own. Consider residency like on the job training. After residency you can do very specialized fellowships.

Derm itsself is pretty standard--you see skin conditions--all kinds, and minor surgery (remove cysts, abscesses, lesions, moles, cancers etc; do biopsies, etc). Some do cosmetics along with a general derm practice, others do not. In some places there is a dermatologist every 3 feet; in other places, they are in demand as there aren%26#039;t any.|||Not to be a downer, but as you are in high school, I wouldn%26#039;t put all your hopes into being a dermatologist. A friend of mine graduated from medical school and is doing his residency in a radiology program. Radiology is pretty hard to get into, but apparently dermatology is even harder. Why? Great hours, work at a clinic versus at a hospital so not too many patients, and still make amazing money.

So, how do you get into a dermatology program? You will pretty much have to kick @ss at school all the time. There are very few openings and even fewer dermatology programs around, so they are VERY selective with who they pick. Your grades, your scores on the tests, etc. are what they will be looking at when the selection process starts.

You should definitely go for your dream, but it would totally suck if you went through all the schooling and tests and not be able to get into a dermatology program.

I would ask your personal dermatologist to get even a better sense of what they had to go through.

Is it worth going to a dermatologist?

I have had moderate acne since I was 14. I went to the dermatologist a few times as a younger teen and found that none of the medications or creams were doing much. Since then I%26#039;ve been on my own, just using over the counter products. I%26#039;m now 22 and still have some slight acne problems, but I%26#039;m mostly dealing with taking care of the scars and some mild acne here or there.

My insurance does not cover dermatology visits, and I am using tea tree oil mixed with an oil free acne wash to clear up acne which has been doing a great job. I am using Bio Oil, Vitamin E oil, cocoa butter, and am taking fish oil supplements to help with the scarring. I have only been doing this for about a month now and see some decent results.

My questions is this: Is it worth going to a dermatologist when it%26#039;s going to probably be extremely expensive? Are there any other over the counter products I could order to help me rid myself of mild acne and the moderate scarring I have that would save me a trip to the dr?|||It depends, but in the meantime check out all your options.

Here is an innovative program that has a 99% return on results.

Be positive about it, but follow through on your appointments, it is very important.

I spent years in the sun and tanning booths, now I spend my time at the dermatologist.|||If it is positive, they will refer you to an oncologist for treatment.

Not sure why they have the follow up on the 31st

What to expect from a dermatologist visit?

I have had rashes since April, and my parents finally said to visit a dermatologist, so I booked an appointment for mid august. (I will be out of the state until around then, and it was the closest option). Part of the rashes are where the zipper area is of my genitals (pubic hair/front area) and I was wondering if a dermatologist would check that area out, or if they will only look at arms/legs. I also have them on my buttocks and sometimes on my breasts, so I was just wondering if anyone had an idea.

Thanks!|||Since dermatology is a visual science, we will look at anyplace where the problem is, in order to get a diagnosis. If we are able to make the diagnosis just from your arms or legs, or buttocks, then we won%26#039;t have to look at your pubic area. But, occasionally, the rash may appear different in different areas, and it might give us a better clue than if we didn%26#039;t look.

I have been seeing a dermatologist about a crotch & scrotum rash for nearly a year now to no avail.?

OTC: I have tried Tolnaftate, Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Terbinafine, Tioconazole, Butoconazole. I have tried Neosporin, Hyrdocortisone, Benadryl Cream, Zinc Oxide, Betadine, Permethrin, Selsun Blue, Head and Shoulders. I have tried Aloe, Shea Butter, Coco butter, Vitamin E, Collagen, Elastin, dimethicone, glycerine.

RX: ORALLY: I have tried Azithromycin, Doxycycline, Cipro. Diflucan.

Topically: Iodoquinol (Vytone), ketaconozole, oxiconazole, triamcinolone, Betamethasone.

%26quot;Naturopathically%26quot;: ORALLY: Yeast-fighting supplements containing loads of ingredients such as Caprylic Acid, Garlic, Oregano, Tumeric, Thyme, FOS and more. I%26#039;ve tried large dosing of PROBIOTICS. I%26#039;ve tried general skin health supplements such as those containing A, D %26amp; E to name a few. I%26#039;ve tried Neem Leaf.

Topically: I tried applying plain, sugar-free, pure Yogurt. I%26#039;ve tried NEEM OIL.

FINALLY: I have tried even going 2 weeks doing nothing except washing with an ultra sensitive skin soap once daily.

OF ALL THIS, THE ONLY THING THAT HAS HELPED ONE IOTA IS NEEM OIL. Even with neem oil helping, I stll feel discontent b/c

1) It doesn%26#039;t cure me, merely treats me. It is truly astounding the improvement NEEM oil makes. The rash is normally VERY red and burns from the top of one thigh to the other and all over the scrotum. Neem oil makes it very nearly disappear.

2) If I stop using NEEM oil even one day, the rash returns full-force.

3) This offers no explanation as to what is wrong.

4) Neem oil is not covered by insurance and gets a skosh expensive.

5) This also seems to agitate my doctor as if she is highly offended that some Ayuverdic treatment I found on my own is the only thing that is effective.

The doctor has given many diagnoses and on some visits even not offered a diagnosis and merely tried something new. Diagnoses include: Erythrasma, Yeast Infection, Extreme Jock Itch (This is her favorite. She most recently returned to this same diagnosis after giving it months earlier). She has also said she thinks it may be (and I may get this wrong) some form of seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis (however, photos I see on the internet do not resemble this rash at all). Intertrigo. Even Diabetes, but we tested, and thankfully, I do not have diabetes. I made a trip to another doctor to see what the other doc would say. This doc also said Jock Itch. It seems the popular answer for a 38-year male with rawness %26quot;down there,%26quot; even after reporting utter failure to respond to antifungals and expressing that it has lasted for months.

Any ideas anyone? Any recommendations? Please help. Thank you.|||possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here http://www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info/free-online-health-insurance.htm is the resource i have ever had good experience.

How can I see the dermatologist ASAP? ?

I%26#039;ve been seeing the dermatologist and doctor on and off for my acne for about 3-4 years now. When I went to the dermatologist 4 weeks ago he gave me 2 options: roaccutane or an isotretonoin gel (and then roaccutane if that didn%26#039;t work). After hearing all the bad press about roaccutane I took the gel. But it%26#039;s been a month and my face has got progressively worse since then. It is horrendous! I can%26#039;t even look at myself and my face just looks like a mess of lumps, holes and explosions. My next appointment with the dermatologist isn%26#039;t for another 2 months, how do I see him as soon as I can (nhs), preferably in the next few weeks to get this mess fixed with roaccutane.

(I%26#039;ve decided it%26#039;s worth the risk after my friend had miraculous results with it.)|||Call the doc office and tell them your reaction. They will sqeeze you in sooner.|||this a home remedy you can use it or lose it ok wash with warm water and salt and then shower your whole body with cold water and dry with clean towel and then apply olive oil for 3 hours then you can wash it do that for one week and that will clear any acne in your whole body best of luck and enjoy life as it is

Why is my son's dermatologist refusing to do an allergy test?

He just keeps saying to me well %26quot;what if...%26quot; nothing comes back, What if it%26#039;s dust mites, you can%26#039;t do anything about that (the heck I cant!) Also, he doesn%26#039;t want to traumatize my son (as if I do).

It%26#039;s for Eczema btw.

Is there some sub-motive for not sending my son for allergy tests?

To use a quote from a Stephen King novel I finished the other day %26quot;Well at least we did something! What the %%26amp;@ did you do!?%26quot;|||Eczema is allergy related, to those who think differently. I have it, my daughters and my grand daughters.

It%26#039;s related through the %26quot;Y%26quot; chromosome on the female side of the family and, can be traced through the family genes.

Now, all this aside, the allergy tests are not traumatic in the least. My two grand daughters, twins, were 14 months old when they went through these tests.

When, after these tests, he is still showing signs of allergic reactions, then a blood make up will show all the problems in the body, this is a last resort but, complete.

Has your son been getting something like a Benadryl pill or other antihistamine for help. If he has, then he will have to wait at least ten days for the allergy test to become active so, no Benadryl.

Instead of an dermatologist see an allergist or get a referral from you family doctor. Good luck.|||go to an allergy specialist. you have a right to a second oppinion anyway. dermys deal with skin mainly but sometimes you need an actual allergist to see whats up. good luck.|||I didn%26#039;t know that eczema was allergy related. Does the doctor think that it is not related to any allergy, and that is why? Allergy tests are kindof traumatic, so if the symptoms can be treated without knowing.....maybe he thinks that%26#039;s better. But, really, you are entitled to a second opinion, so perhaps you should see a different doctor? One that sees just children? I would do that, to see if the other doctor felt the same way, then at least you know you aren%26#039;t getting brushed off.|||ask your regular doctor about this|||you the boss.you pay i play..|||What kind of Insurance do you have if it is A HMO probably. but you can get a second opinion and I would if I were you. Beside aren%26#039;t you putting him through more by letting him suffer and not finding out what it could be. I think you should do it if it is that bad for him

Good Luck.

Can anyone recomend a GREAT Dermatologist in Chicago? I just turned 30 and I am breaking out like a teenager!

Hi WZR17

Here are some real answers on skin conditions. Remedies at the bottom. Cleansing the body of toxins is the key. Especially a colon cleanse! Educate yourself on detoxifying the blood.

Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - %26quot;What is your skin trying to tell you? Often the skin is a metaphor for deeper issues and a way for your body to send up a red flag to warn you that all is not well underneath. When our skin is unhealthy it is usually a reflection of the internal state of our bodies, and is often a sign of poor elimination of toxins and waste products. Most of us are embarrassed by skin problems such as rashes, rosacea, boils or acne, especially in places where others can see our imperfections. The skin is the body%26#039;s first line of defense against the environment. It has to deal with the effects of weather, sun , cold, heat, dryness, humidity, scrapes, bumps, soaps, detergents, chemicals, perspiration and dirt of all kinds. It is a wonder that our skin stays healthy most of the time! We can help our skin deal with this onslaught by optimizing our general health and by protecting our skin from harsh environmental exposure. Western medicine generally treats skin eruptions with either antibiotics, cortisone, or antifungal preparations. These medicines may alleviate the skin problem temporarily, or occasionally for good, but do not address the source of the problem. Putting a lid on skin symptoms without getting to the root of the imbalance may even result in suppression, that means the imbalance may be driven deeper causing more serious health problems later without ever strengthening the underlying vital force of the person. Fortunately, naturopathic medicine offers a wide vareity of effective treatments for skin problems.%26quot;

Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - %26quot;Your skin is a reflection of how well your body is eliminating the toxins that build up on a daily basis. Chronic skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis stem from a combination of genetic factors, immune stress, dietary deficiencies or sensitivities, and the accumulation of toxins in the body. For our skin to be radiant and clear, it is very important that the other organs of elimination (kidneys, liver, lungs, and colon) are cleansing the body effectively. If not, the skin will be overtaxed, pores will become clogged, and eruptions of one sort or another will result. Here are a number of steps you can take to improve your body%26#039;s overall elimination wtih specific emphasis on your skin.%26quot;

Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. Juice Fasting is the world%26#039;s most ancient and natural healing mechanism. Fasting triggers a truly wondrous cleansing process that reaches right down to each and every cell and tissue in the body.

Learn more about Therapeutic Fasting and Detoxification - Colon Cleansing is the main step. Must remove the toxins from the colon, so the toxins dont get in the blood and cause illness and disease.

Natural Cures

1. Fruits and Vegetables for Acne: Carrot %26amp; spinach, celery %26amp; watercress, grapefruit juices are all useful to combat acne.

2. Unwholesome Foods: Acne, a prevalent problem among teen-aged boys would not be possible in our society if our foods were wholesome. A most sad and disgusting sight is the pus-filled pimples due to inner toxicity --- wastes trying desperately to escape through the face. This condition often turns a gentle face in the blossom of youth into a waste dump of pimples, pus and subsequent pock marks which can be prevented. The tons of acne medications and prescriptions sold annually act only on the effect of the harmful food, and not the cause of the disease, malnutrition. The traditional teenage meal, a grease burger, french fries and a milk shake or cola simply does not provide enough nourishment for anyone, let alone a boy going through puberty to adulthood. Our highly processed foods are devoid of hormones found in fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds. Must do a colon cleanse to rid of all the toxins in the body, which eventually get into the blood and cause acne and all other diseases.

3. Cabbage: Apply a lotion of freshly prepared cabbage juice preceded, if desired, by the application of leaves. The eating of cabbage leaves or juice is also helpful.

4. Lemon Juice: Skin problems such as acne... will often respond to a treatment of lemon juice. For blackheads rub lemon juice over them each night.

5. Black Walnut: Externally, Black Walnut is nearly a miracle worker in cases of ...acne, dandruff, boils, itch, shingles, ringworm--we could go on, but you can see that you can use Black Walnut whenever a skin disorder appears! The tincture is an excellent first-aid remedy for wounds.

Best of health to you|||Find a doctor who can give you Amnesteem. It%26#039;s Accutane without the side effects. I also had adult-onset acne, partly from a hormonal imbalance stemming from a brain injury.

For topical, Proactiv works. You can also use Neutrogena%26#039;s Advanced Solutions line. They both work. The real problem, though, for adult acne is not a dirty face. It%26#039;s internal. You have to treat it from the inside.|||Here%26#039;s how.......

I have NO idea where you are in Chicago,So---------

Google the name of a hospital near you.

Open it.

OK, now you should find a drop-down which says %26quot;find a physician.

Open it,

Look under specialties? open it and click on %26quot;dermatologists.%26quot;

it will; show you the names of dermatologists who have privileges in that hospital.

Click on them, it might show you their college, med school, office details.

Anyone ever been to the dermatologist??

i have had an outbreak of that under the skin, super sore acne around my jaw for the past few months and i have NEVER HAD ACNE before in my life. i finally broke down and went to a dermatologist who prescribed an antibiotic (bactrim ds) a face wash (benzoyl peroxide or something) and differin gel (.3%).

MY FACE IS RED AND DRY AND HURTS LIKE A SUNBURN!!!! does it do this before it starts to get better, or is the medication just too much to handle?? what should i do???|||Use less medication and apply some moisturizing cream. Eat less greasy food %26amp; chocolate.

Should I go to a dermatologist?

I%26#039;ve had, and still have acne. Right now, i%26#039;ve been doing acupunture, and majorly altered my diet. So, its getting better, doesn%26#039;t look to bad right now (knock on wood). So, i%26#039;ve done a lot of research, and have found out that some things that are said to be good for acne, are horrible. So, now i%26#039;m really hesitant about using any medicine, or chemicals. All i%26#039;ve been doing is natural things. So, today my mom suggested to go to a dermatologist. I%26#039;ve got mixed feelings. On one hand, thats good they could help me. But on the other hand, here are the downsides i think there are:

1) They%26#039;ll prescribe some chemicals or something which i%26#039;ve read many horrible reviews about

2) They%26#039;ll say my diet is rubbish, and it doesn%26#039;t affect it, but there obviously is a connection, they just say that cause dieting won%26#039;t make them any money

3) They mgiht prescribe accutor proactive or something, which may be good short term, but they do more bad than good in the long run, and i%26#039;ll break out again

so?|||It might be a good idea to see a dermatologist, but if you are not sure about what kinds of medications they will prescribe (Accutane is quite aggressive actually, I%26#039;ve seen it firsthand from people who use it) or if you want to try a more natural route, it might be a good idea to try a facewash with tea tree oil, which is antibacterial and is known to fight against acne.

I know it sounds stupid to be putting oil on your face when acne can be aggravated by having oily skin, but putting tea tree oil on your face at bedtime actually does work.

Proactive also might work if you use it regularly. Because acne can%26#039;t be cured, you can%26#039;t really find a short-term solution. You have to be rigid in your skin cleansing routine and you have to keep at it because the only way to see results is to keep up your routine (cleanse, tone, perhaps moisturize and then treat).|||ya go and they might prescribe something better for you|||It doesn%26#039;t hurt to go and see what the Dr. says. It doesn%26#039;t mean you have to do what he says or go back again if you don%26#039;t like what his treatment plan is. It will only cost you the initial fee to go.|||Please see a Dermatologist, there are medications that can do wonders for your skin conditions.|||you are lucky your mother will take you to da demo my mother says it is a waste of money and it will go away as i get older

Just got back from the dermatologist and Im NOT happy?

My %26quot;doctor%26quot; was more of a sales person%26quot;. I went in for two changes and irritated moles, a rash(that of course is no gone) and a rash on my hips.

She said one mole looked irritated but they didnt look cancerous but she is willing to remove them. For the most part of my visit she was only concerned with selling me anti aging creams from her office at $50 a pop. Telling me I cant buy stuff that good anywhere else, which I have been told in the past is a lie. Even if I were to have my moles removed I wouldnt go to her, Id give my money to another doctor that wasnt so fake. All she cared about was my fine lines. But im not sure Im willing to dish out another $40 to see a different doctor and Im not even convinced my moles are okay. Im still worried about them.|||That%26#039;s what second opinions are all about. You may not want to dish out the additional $40 but you%26#039;re peace of mind is worth the money, especially if you find out that you do in fact need to have them removed. In the relative scheme of things $40 isn%26#039;t that much money. Complain to your insurance company if you feel that they haven%26#039;t gotten what they pay for and ask to be sent to another dermatologist.|||You should have said that you were unwilling to pay the bill before you even left. There is no way out of paying it now. I would have told her I am not here to learn about fine lines, I am here to learn about my moles. If that didn%26#039;t shut her up, should have gotten up and walked out. Doctors never sees to amaze me. Another idea is to turn her into the board. Search the name of it. They could fine her for doing this. That might not save you money, but it will other people just like you.|||Moles are not dangerous unless you notice changes in them, in size or appearance, over a period of a couple of months. Dry skin in a bad condition during winter when we live in heated houses and the air is dry, over the counter medication will usually solve that.|||I would get second opinion my brother had a mole he scraped it by accident when he went to hospital to check it out they kept him in it was cancerous.I wouldnt trust anyone that was more concerned about selling me something , she doesnt sound like a good doctor|||I can see that you had a troublesome experience with the dermatologist, but I can%26#039;t quite see exactly what your question is.

On whose recommendation did you see that doctor?|||photoshop them. ps: sounds like a quack. get a new doctor. if you can%26#039;t trust your own doctor for medical advice, what%26#039;s the point in fattening their pockets?|||What.....? I don%26#039;t even get your question. Maybe you could learn to express yourself a little better.|||You are right--absolutely right. I would call the office, tell the office manager you have a problem after your visit today and you would like to speak to the doctor, and for her to call you. Explain that either she calls you to discuss it, or you will call the state board that over-sees the licensing of doctors in your state.

That ought to get her to call you back; explain that you felt like you were at a Mary Kay party, not a doctor%26#039;s office, and that you are concerned about the moles, you want her to re-examine you, or to give you a referral to another doctor, and that you WANT A REFUND!

What she did is way out of line. I am a volunteer cancer educator for the American Cancer Society and I work closely with doctors and my sister is a doctor. I can assure you that most doctors NEVER would do anything like what happened to you, and would be as offended and full of disbelief as you were. She needs to be reported, whether or not you get your answers from her about your mole.

If you have health insurance, file a complaint with them, in writing, and tell them that you do not feel you were properly examined, you don%26#039;t want them to pay her, and you want to see another doctor.

Good luck--please let me know how this turns out!|||I wouldn%26#039;t want to NOT treat moles that I felt suspicious about.

Go to a PCP.... If the mole isn%26#039;t on your face, a PCP can remove your mole just as easily as a dermatologist.

FYI... My dad had a spot on his face that he was concerned about. Three different doctors said they didn%26#039;t think it was anything. But they%26#039;d freeze it off anyway. It kept coming back. He went to one more doctor who took an actually biopsy and found yes it was cancerous. She referred him to a different doctor because of the possible scar tissue involved. The spot that three doctors said were nothing had grown and was sending off roots that were as long as three inches!

If you are uncomfortable with the moles Have Them Removed!

Neccesary to go see a Dermatologist?

Well i have uneven skin tone and i want to fix that. My skin is very very sensitive. I CANT put lotion, cream, sunscreen, makeup etc. Im like allergic to those kind of stuff. So should i go see a dermatologist and help even out my skin tone? I don%26#039;t have zits and all that stuff. Its just soo uneven. People can tell it is.

My mom says i dont have to go and that its no big deal. To me , i look dirty and like i said before, people can notice it. Even my grandma can notice it and she was wondering why my skin looks like that.

And if i do go, how much do you think it will cost for us? my family is low on money.|||Yes, if it is a problem for you then you should go. The derm can help with any skin problems, not just acne. Talk to your mom about looking at her insurance to see if it covers dermatology. If it does, then you would just have to pay for the co-payment when you go to your appointment and for the cream (or whatever they prescribe you). Mainly just see about insurance, if it%26#039;s covered, it really shouldn%26#039;t get too expensive. Trust me, it%26#039;s worth going to see a derm about any skin problems.|||No you do not need to go right now... There is very little a dermatologist can do for uneven skin tone other than tell you to get some sun... Meaning, dermatologists are good at treating skin disorders, but can do very little for pigment disorders...

My advice would be to eat allot more high quality fat in your diet (fish oil), and get a little more sun...|||I think you should see a dermatologist. And about the money, try getting a babysitting job or something easy. Make it like 7$ an hour and give 2$ to your parents and the rest for spending money or something like that. It%26#039;ll help and maybe it will get your parents to get yu to a derm.|||If it bothers you. you should go.

the dermatologist can help you.

i know i went to one and it did help me

i%26#039;m not sure how much it cost tho

anyways... good luck!|||You can get hypo-allergenic foundation,

and its relatively cheap.|||I would see a dermatologist. You can get help w/ moisturizers and sunscreens for sensitive skin and even tested to find out the cause of the sensitivity. I used to have a hard time with many products and found out from my dermatologist that I couldn%26#039;t use products with a fragrance, which many have. No problems since.

Many dermatology clinics have a separate office that deals with more aesthetic problems like fine lines and uneven skin tone. There are many effective products out there but most require that you use some type of SPF in the 40 - 75 range. Your problem could be related to your hormones so you might want to consider seeing your gynecologist and get some blood work. You uneven skin tone could be a symptom of a more serious condition. I started taking low dose estrogen last year and my acne problem has all but disappeared but the problem was actually related to a more serious condition. Discuss this with your dermatologist as well. In the 60%26#039;s women who took birth control pills, which were much higher in estrogen than they are today often had problems with skin discolorization.

When should you see a Dermatologist?

I%26#039;ve had Acne, like every teenager for awhile now, and it%26#039;s always mild, and I can%26#039;t remember the last time i had a CLEAR, i mean clear face. I always have outbreaks somewhere, basically my question is, do you think it would be wise for me to see a dermatologist now, or is it something that%26#039;s pretty normal.

Yea, yea, I know beauty is on the inside blah blah blah, but it does make me kind of self conscious and I know it%26#039;s not pleasant to look at.

It%26#039;s not TERRIBLE like some people, but is it grounds enough to see one?

sorry for reiterating myself so much. :P|||Probably not. Derms specialize in those with severe and/or cystic acne, etc.

However, if you%26#039;re following basic skin care and still having no results, you may want to see one about prescribing a mild cream to treat it.

Wash your face twice a day, mild cleanser. Tone. My skin%26#039;s very oily, so I use pure alcohol. Then, to dry it out, I put calamine on my face at night and wash it off in the morning.

If that doesn%26#039;t work, try a system like ProActiv. Follow it correctly.

If none of these work, perhaps the derm can prescribe a light benzoyl peroxide cream if worse comes to worse (and trust me, these aren%26#039;t the same as the over-the-counter deals).|||Since it is mild you do not need to go to a dermatologist. What you need to do is follow a good face cleaning regement and also need to remember when starting a new program your face will get worse before it get better. The websites I have listed will give you some ideas of what you can do at home. They will give you some ideas. http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/鈥?/a>

Do I go to my dermatologist or gyno for a bump on my upper leg?

I am not sure which dr I need to go to? I would rather go to my dermatologist but I am afraid they will not want to deal with it since it is on my upper leg (but not on my genitals). I don%26#039;t think it is a std but I want to get it tested to be sure. Do dermatologist deal with std%26#039;s???|||I would say go to your dermatologist, as they deal with skin issues. Your gyno is there for problems involving reproductive organs and such. Even if you had a mole on your gentitals they would still send you to a dermatologist, unless it was an STD or internal. If you are not comfortable with that advise, start with your family Dr. and let him refer you.

Good luck|||go to your gyno|||I think the chances of it being an STD are almost nil. Go to the dermatologist. They deal with skin conditions and growths regardless of where they are on the body surface. Try not to worry. The odds are extremely high that this is nothing. Good luck.|||Go to a dermatologist.|||go to a gyno.|||i would suggest going to your gyno then go from there god luck

I'm going to the dermatologist for some moderate acne, what can I expect?

I%26#039;ve never been to the dermatologist before. I%26#039;m 28 and for the past 3 years or so, have been dealing with stubborn acne. Its not all over my face, but there are always breakouts present somewhere. I%26#039;m excited about going because I think the doctor will be able to help me out. What kind of things will the doctor be able to do for me? Should I bring any products that I%26#039;m currently using so he can see them? Also, should I shave before I go so that the doctor can actually see the zits without stubble in the way? Thanks for all your help, I truly appreciate it.|||I don%26#039;t think you need to bring your products, but you should know what you use (or better the active ingredients). Your dermatologist will likely be familiar with them. I would say yes to the shave because there are several types of acne and it will make it easier for them to identify yours, but it%26#039;s not a must-do because they should be able to tell regardless.

You can expect a basic %26quot;look over%26quot; as they look at your skin for skin type, acne sores, etc. Depending on your acne, they%26#039;ll probably give you either a topical (cream/gel) or oral prescription to try depending on the severity or may just have you use different products than you do now. Either way, don%26#039;t be a afraid to go back if the prescribed treatments aren%26#039;t working for you. I%26#039;ve found a lot of it is trial and error to see what works for you. I%26#039;ve had and seen a lot of good results from knowledgeable Dermatologists. Good Luck.|||Well, it%26#039;s pretty easy. He or she is likely JUST going to look at your face. You may not want to shave yet because your acne may become inflamed making it look even worse. You want it to look like it normally does. You don%26#039;t need to take your products in, just know what you use. The dermatologist will likely prescribe an acne cream for you. That%26#039;s about all they do! Good luck to you!|||There is no universal treatment for acne that works for everyone. The doc will consider your skin type and other factors that might affect acne, so its a good idea to make a list of the products you have used or are currently using. It%26#039;s probably best to shave ahead of time since your shaving could be contributing to the problem, and its best for the doctor to see the whole picture. Docs may treat acne with various creams, scrubs, oral antibiotics, laser, or UV, depending on your circumstances. Don%26#039;t expect miracles, but you will probably gain some ability to better control the acne at the very least.|||Don%26#039;t go yet! Pine Tar Soap! Seriously! Call around to your local pharmacies until you locate some. A friend of mine bought some for her teenager who had boil like pimples and blackheads all over his face and back. After 2 weeks they are all gone! It is only about $4.00 a bar and works wonders. It is made out of the same thing that Drawing Salve for boils is made of. Don%26#039;t waste your money on expensive things like Proactive.

You can also buy some Retin A which used to be by prescription only and will make your face peel. Try the Pine Tar Soap first as the Retin A is expensive.

How can I get a dermatologist to prescribe me accutane?

I am sick and tired of the damn acne on my back. My face is 99% clear, my chest is 98% clear, but my back flares and is a mess. I do EVERYTHING I can to get rid of it. anti-bacterial body wash 2x a day, Salicylic Acid pads a few times a day, prescription stuff on my back in the shower, ETC.

But here is the problem. Since its became such a big problem for me Ive been doing everything in my power to get rid of it so most people would actually say %26quot;its not that bad%26quot;. BUT I WANT IT GONE! I dont want to have to think about it everytime I take my shirt off, and be self conscious.

I am a bodybuilder and I%26#039;m scared to take my friggin shirt off!!!

I know the sides, and I%26#039;m ok with them. I am a healthy 20 year old male.

Please dont give me tips on getting rid of acne, i%26#039;ve tried them all including tanning.|||You said you%26#039;re a bodybuilder...any chance you%26#039;re using steroids of any sort? Those can cause %26quot;bacne%26quot;.

Just go to the derm and say, I%26#039;ve tried everything and it%26#039;s still bothering me, do you think Accutane would help. And see what they say.

Btw, tanning doesn%26#039;t help acne, it%26#039;s a myth. It just temporarily dries out the skin and makes it look better.

Who has gone to a dermatologist?

I am considering going to a dermatologist but I have no insurance. I have broken out really bad and I am too old for acne and can not stand this! Anyone that has gone, please share about the cost and what they did for you! Please and thank you so much!|||If you have no insurance first try other face creams.

Dermatologist cost alot of money to visit, depending on how good they are and how much they charge but services.

What kind of face cream you used in the past...maybe if you list them, i can recommend something for you to try first before shelling out $100-200 a visit.

Edit: after reading your %26quot;AD%26quot; if you work at a low-income job, go and medicaid, so they can pay for it for you.

Go to your local public hospital get the form and in the form they will what you need to apply and have to get into medicaid.

You definitely need to see a dermatologist, i really don%26#039;t know what to tell you to actually help you lol.

If you get a doctor to referral you to a dermatologist then that%26#039;s more money for you that you have to spend (doctor fees, referral fee, and now dermatologist fees)

Before going to the doctor, be sure to get insurance/medicaid there is nothing to be ashamed of having medicaid, you are a american born citizen you these are the benefits of being american and take advantage of that.|||I would try to get insurance, because for one a visit to a dermatologist without insurance is going to set you back at least $90. For another, the best way to fight acne is with medication, and any prescription you receive is going to cost $100-400 a MONTH without insurance. So the cost will be very high.

That said, a dermatologist really can help you with your acne. Accutane is like a miracle drug - it completely got rid of my acne. I recommend it highly.|||Hi there. First u will need to see your doctor so you can get a referral. If the doctor thinks it is worthy they can send u to the dermatologist, or they can actually prescribe you with medication to treat your break outs.

As for costs, im pretty sure my consultations were free, but the medication was not. Acutane was upwards of $100 dollars a month (about 4 years ago).|||i had a molluskum which is where you have these little pimple things and they are contageous like if you touch it and touch somewhere on your body or someone else. he really helped and i had maybe 4 sessions which were about 140$ per session but i only had to pay about 40$ because of my insurance. you should really look into insurance i recommend nationwide.|||it cost about the same as a doctor. all they will do is look at you and give you creams and ointments to try till one works. if you don%26#039;t want to pay for the medicines till you know they work, then most offices will have samples of stuff that is free, just ask them.|||i break out bad too. i dont get acne tho. i get under skin pimples. just wash ur face every morning and nite and restrain urself from touching ur face or letting others. wash hands before touchin face..|||not me : (|||not me!|||ive been to a gynacologist...does that help?|||I went but I had insurance and they are normally very pricey. Basically what they do is figure out what may be causing the breakout and then giving you medicine (antibiotics usually) to combat the problem. The best thing you can do for yourself is to take a step back and analyze what may be causing this break out.

Do you bathe regularly?

Is there something wrong with your water?

Are you especially stressed?

Have you been working out more/less recently?

I had called the doctor before I showed up and asked him if there was anything I could do for now since he couldn%26#039;t see me for almost a month. He said to try to eat less fatty foods, to buy a gentle soap like dove or a body wash. He also suggested finding ways to relax after work or class that truly made me feel relaxed. And, to exercise more but to also be sure to wear clean clothes (no double using the gym clothes) and to bathe as soon as possible afterward.

Additional Thoughts:

You are doing too much trying to help out your acne. You pretty much have dried out your skin and made it more susceptible to break outs. I suggest picking up some of this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Body-Cl鈥?/a> It worked wonders for me. But I would only use one acne product at a time.

Why does Michael Jackson's dermatologist want a say in how the King of Pop's kids are raised?

Well all know that they awarded Katherine custody of her three grandchildren and agreed to visitation rights for Paris and Prince%26#039;s biological mother Debbie Rowe. But

Dr. Arnold Klein(Michael%26#039;s Dermatologist) made a surprise appearance in court to express his concern for the %26quot;education, health care and welfare%26quot; of Jackson%26#039;s two eldest children, Prince Michael and Paris. Not that Klein, who still has never flat-out denied that he is the biological father of those kids, thinks that their grandmother Katherine Jackson shouldn%26#039;t be taking care of them

Now isn%26#039;t that strange? There is a reason for everything

http://www.usmagazine.com/news/michael-j…|||He might the biological father.

But again.. no one knows for sure yet.|||Typical white person. They think they have the right and authority to do things like that. White people in general think they have the right to discuss who should get his kids and they don%26#039;t. If he did think he was the father, and he is not, that is not the way to go about making any decisions.|||Probably because he%26#039;s the father/sperm donor.|||He%26#039;s a douchebag looking for attention.|||WELL HE WAS THE SPERM DONOR I GUESS OR WHATEVER BUT HE DIDNT RAISE THEM! MICHAEL IS THEIR FATHER!|||I think he is the real father of Prince and Paris.|||When the Cash Cow %26#039;moo%26#039;s%26#039; the greedy come running.|||he%26#039;s a troll looking for additional camera/fame time|||it%26#039;s all about the money and wanting more attention!|||The jerk just wants money.|||why does no one care about blanket : (

Question about acne treatments from dermatologist -Please help?

Hi, I%26#039;m in my early 20s and just started having acne problems a few months ago, mostly spot whiteheads here and there on the cheeks. But it was getting frustrating so I went to the dermatologist last week and he gave me these creams to used:

-Benzoyl Perozide 5% gel (day time)

-Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution (day time)

-Retinoic Acid 0.1% cream (night time)

I guess I have some very specific questions if anyone is familiar with the treatments above and experiences with visiting dermatologist in general:

1) He said treatment might make it worst before it gets better, what does it mean? And what is the time frame for the %26quot;worst%26quot; period?

2) Since using these creams for a couple of days, my face has been extra sensitive and very dry (peeling), is it normal?

3) And how long before I should expect to see visable results?

I know everything takes time, but I would just like to know that what I%26#039;m doing will eventually lead to good results and I can get back to my life|||FACTS

Be aware of some active ingredients like Benzoyl Peroxide, these ingredients can cause major side effects...

What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

Good luck.|||im using ALL of those.clindamycin i didnt notice anything. benzoyl peroxide is great when you start using it u see fast results. but overall i really like retin A

but after a while its as if they stopped working on my face...idk

good luck. oh and yea im actually peeling too. get some mild oil free moisturizer NOT neutrogina i hate that stuff

Anyone know of a good dermatologist (in the midwest) that treat african american skin?

I am just in my 30s and having a lot of acne scarring (hyperpigmentation). I%26#039;ve been to dermatologists on my insurance list...they have not been very helpful and have proven to not be very empahetic to skin type and color.

Anyone know of a dermatologist that specifically treats skin issues for darker/ethnic skin, who practices in Michigan, Illinois or Indiana...let me know?|||glutathione skin whitening pill will get rid of all your skin hyperpigmentations.. did you know that glutathione is also the best antioxidant known to man?

Will my insurance cover a dermatologist and acne treatment or is it considered cosmetic?

You have to check the insurance. Most would think it is cosmetic and not cover it. It is worth checking though.|||what does that have to do with cancer?|||You would have to check with your insurance provider but I think that if you are reffered to a derm. by your doctor it should be covered. I don%26#039;t think they cover the medication though.|||Yes all insurances will cover a dermatologist and acne treatment some insurances require a referral from your primary care physician- you%26#039;ll have to check with your insurance for that. Cosmetic is only when you are trying to improve your image such as laser treatment or plastic surgery, breast augmentation etc.|||Normally Insurance will not cover for the treatment of Acne or Dermatologist. Both this will be categorised as cosmetic. You may talk to your insurance provider. Try your luck!|||most insurance will cover it if they feel it is medically necessary. If you tell your doctor you just don%26#039;t like something then they may consider it cosmetic. if you have uncontrollable ache or other skin conditions it should not be a problem. It is all in the way the doctor or his staff submits the diagnosis codes to bill the insurance.|||Depends on the insurance company, the plan you are on, *and* the type of treatment.

Most US HMO and PPO insurers will cover dermatologist visits and medications for acne, as it is a very real medical condition.

However, some types of treatments that are experimental, investigational, or non-proven in a scientific setting may be non-covered, and you may find yourself with expensive bills. Such treatments may be infrared or ultraviolet, or dermabrasion. Best to check with your insurer first, to see whether the treatment is covered for your diagnosis.

Good luck!|||It will be covered|||This only depends on your insurance coverage. Most polices will not cover this.|||Acne is a disease, and if not controlled and it gets severe, it can produce pshycological problems. Your insurance should cover this, but first, review your policy|||You have to call your insurance to find out. Sometimes if your Dr writes you a referral the insurance will cover it. Be best to call your insurance first.
