Does a dermatologist help?

Hi, I just went to the dermatologist yesterday and he gave me some cream to used for day and night time, including a 5% benzoyl perozide gel. I have very mild acne, a couple spots here and there (mostly whiteheads).

He mentioned that there%26#039;s a chance that the cream can make it worst before making it better. It basically took him about 5 minutes to look at my face and that was it, I couldn%26#039;t get any questions in. The service was pretty terrible for $150.

But I just want to ask those of you who had gone to a dermatologist in the past, if I follow the routine prescribed by the derm, how long before I should start seeing visible results? I know there is no miracle cream and everything takes time, but if it does work, I just want to have an idea in mind. Thank you.|||What? You went to a derm for a few comedos? You serious?

Well usually it takes a month or so to see if an acne medication is working...|||Sometimes a dermotalogist does not work.

Does your dermatologist make you feel bad about your skin?

I%26#039;ve been going to my derm for a few months now, and I have noticed a great change in my acne. However, he always says that it should be better by now and goes on to further prescribe every pill, gel, and ointment under the sun for my skin. It%26#039;s like he hasn%26#039;t noticed any progress at all. Yes, I%26#039;m black and have lots of dark marks that takes a looonnng time to heal, but they too have started to go away. But no, he just says it should be better and starts telling me about more drugs I should use. For those of you with skin conditions, have you had this happen?|||that%26#039;s too bad that you leave his office feeling worse than when you went in. It%26#039;s very common in black skin to get postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark marks after having had a pimple). They tend to fade over a long period of time, but I have found that the use of Azaleic acid cream helps both the acne and the dark marks. See if your dermatologist is familiar with using that. At this point in your treatment, you should be noticing less bumps, but still have the dark marks. I wonder if your dermatologist is frustrated by the dark marks. Does he have a lot of experience in treating black skin??

Could my dermatologist miss scabies? How fast does it spread over your whole body?

I woke up Friday morning with a few blisters on each wrist. Throughout Friday the rash spread to my leg then abdomen. By Saturday it had gotten worse so my family made me go to the ER. The ER doctors said it was maybe contact dermatitis or a virus. They gave me a shot, prednisone and stuff to help the itching. It hadn%26#039;t gotten better by Monday but in fact had spread to my toes so I went to my doctor%26#039;s office. My doctor couldn%26#039;t see me so a nurse saw me, freaked out and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist said she thought it was a drug allergy. I take a few medications for my headaches and back problems. She kept saying, %26quot;it%26#039;s so diffuse that it has to be a drug allergy%26quot;. It hasn%26#039;t gotten better and I was googling, accidentally came across scabies and it looks like my rash. Now I am freaking out!!!!! I don%26#039;t want to give this to my baby. Could my doctor miss scabies? I have dogs. I have read that dogs can pass it to humans and have also read that they cannot. We have had all of these squirrels dying in our neighborhood, is there a link? I can%26#039;t possibly think of where else I could have gotten scabies. I also really want to know; does scabies spread that fast over your body?|||Did they do a biopsy or a skin scraping? That can help determine what it is. It seems like it could be a drug allergy. Have you started a new medication? Also can you be allergic to something new such as detergent, food reaction etc?

ANYONE A DERMATOLOGIST? I have the red spot on my nose. I want to get rid of it! http://img89.imageshack.us/i?

It was a small pimple 6 years ago. I popped it,... and ever since, its looked like this. It seems to be tiny blood vessels, close to the surface. Im wondering if anything can be done with it. Its really bright red, when I get out of the shower. Its quite embarrasing, at times. Please help!|||Maybe buy a cream that reduces the redness.|||I.m not a dermatologist ..and i dont know what you should do..I just thought i should comment because your first answer the person was quite rude.. Lisa|||Nikon D70. Or even the Canon Rebel. you just need macro settings. ask you local camera dealer, thier knowledge is the best rescource. Wolf camera, CCcamera is the best place... but I think they are only in the LOU.|||If you need the instant results that a digital gives you, then you need to get one that will take a very good quality macro lens. I would suggest either Nikon or Canon high mega pixel cameras for that. But since I know that you have to have color accuracy (because of your occupation), I would stick to a standard camera, film SLR, and use one of the macro lenses that has the flash that will go around the end of the lens

Pardon my attitude here, but I think doctors and teaching hospitals in particular expect more than they going to get when it comes to visuals. If you take a picture at 5400K, then you should project it with 5400K. Otherwise y our colors come out wrong.

Since Olympus has been a primary supplier to the medical industry for eons, find out if Olympus makes one of the macro lenses with the flash ring available for it.|||I do not know what your currency exchange is, but I have already written this using US dollars. You can check out the prices locally and see if it fits your budget. I am a dentist and I do some intraoral photography.

I%26#039;ll tell you what I use and what you might consider. I got a Nikon D70s for personal use, with the thought that I could also get a macro lens and use it in the office. I got myself a new camera for personal use, as I found that I wanted to leave this setup in the office at all times. I would say that a Nikon D50 would be perfectly adequate for intraoral use, but you might find a good buy on a D70s, as they are being closed out right now. 6 MP is PLENTY for intraoral use. You would not need a huge memory card for limited use, but I%26#039;d still suggest a 1 GB card with accelerated write speed, like a Sandisk Ultra or Extreme or a Lexar 80x card.

I am using a Nikon 60 mm Macro lens, which translates into about 90 mm in %26quot;35 mm equivalent.%26quot; This gives plenty of working distance. Nikon also has a 105 Macro and the brand new 105 VR Macro, but you said, %26quot;simple and effective.%26quot;

I use the built-in pop-up flash rather than a $400-600 marco lighting set-up. It%26#039;s free. %26quot;Simple and effective.%26quot;

Set the camera in Aperture priority and choose f:11, f:16 or so, depending on personal preference. Set the EV at -0.7 stops. Perhaps you would like a different EV setting, but this is what works for me. After that, in autofocus, it%26#039;s a point and shoot with wonderful results.

I see the D50 is out of stock at B%26amp;H, but it sells for $550.

The D70s is also out of stock, but sells for $700.

The D80, arriving in September, will be $1,000.

The Macro 60mm f:2.8 lens is also backordered, but sells for $400.

The Macro 105mm f:2.8 lens is available for $660.

The Macro 105mm f:2.8 VR is out of stock, but sells for $830.

SO - pick your price and find a match. If you can find a D50 and 60mm Macro lens, you would have an excellent intraoral camera for under $1,000. I have seen kits to modify point and shoots that cost more than that.

Here%26#039;s a sample shot from my D70s with the 60mm lens. I admit that it is not %26quot;presentation quality,%26quot; but it was just a quick shot to communicate with the lab.

http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/D70s鈥?/a>|||Not being totally familiar with that camera, what mega pixels it is and that sort of thing, I can only respond to what you want to do with what cameras I would look at.

Since all your work will be close up you need a macro lens or attachement.

I would suggest you go with a dslr or an slr (which is not digital and therefore the results will not be immediate in nature.) You can get a good dslr, for what you are doing I would recomment no less than 8 mega pixels for the detail and clarity, although I think you also need to invest in a sturdy tripod. I use an Olympus evolt e500 and have interchangeable lens including a macro and wide angle lens attachement. They are reasonably priced although I am unfamiliar with your currency so am not sure what your budget is.

A point and shoot will not be sufficient in my opinion as it has such a limited focal range and usually no ability to add a macro lens. (some have a macro setting but this is very limited.)

You can check out some cameras at http://www.silvaspoon.net/cameras.html

and there are links down the left column of some of the better outlets that usually have cameras on sale.|||You%26#039;ve to take a Macro based camera or a camera with very good zoom...You can try canon S3IS at www.singaporemall.in|||You really need to upgrade your camera. For the type of work you are talking about, I would recommend an entry level digital SLR. The one you probably want is the new Canon Rebel XTi (this camera is also known as the EOS 400D, outside the United States).

I have no idea how you might order this, where you live, except online. In terms of US dollars, these places offer reasonable prices and are well within your budget as of today%26#039;s currency exchange rates.

You might want to consider buying a macro lens for this camera to take ultra close up shots of various lesions.

Went to dermatologist?

okay, just went to dermatologist and I was trying to tell him my story of how i was taking vitamin c pills, 2500% daily value, and niacin at night 2000% dv, and then when I stopped taking them, my face turned pale. He didnt hear me out and prescribed me all these things I didnt need. I was literally in there for a minute and got all these prescriptions and a bill.

So, what should I do. My skin is still pale white, and Im black, and im super depressed and I dont know what to do. Can anyone explain this to me?|||Sounds like he couldn%26#039;t give a monkey and jus wanted to get get through he%26#039;s day. Don%26#039;t understand how the doc can prescribe u something that he doesn%26#039;t have enough info on especially in a minute. He may examine the appearance but did he ask if there was any symptoms, u using anything apart from the vitamins, etc. Get a second opinion wid a different doc...try to get a recommended one.|||Try researching it on the web. That%26#039;s a problem these days, doctor%26#039;s do not listen. I had a heart cath because the doctor%26#039;s would not listen, and that is a serious procedure to go through for nothing. Researched my problem on the web, found it was lack of magnesium. Thing of it is, my hair tuned white at age 18, and I liked it. Now that I am taking magnesium, it is turning back to dark. I don%26#039;t like it so I just bleach it out, white again. Maybe your body does need the minerals you were taking, but do some research on your own, and see what you can find. I was about to be sent for more tests, sure saved myself some big bills. Take a look at www.webmd.com and see if you can find your answer there.|||You should have made him listen. Call him or get a second opinion.

As for the pale skin, well I don%26#039;t know about taking Vitamin C internally, but Vitamic C in moisturizers (L%26#039;Oreal has some good ones) stimulates the skin which in turn increases blood flow. They usually recommend it to people with sallow (yellow or pale color) skin or just dull skin in general to brighten up their complexion. I used it and it does work but it doesn%26#039;t last all day. My other suggestion is taking Vitamin B supplements which also aids blood flow in the body. My co-worker takes them and she has an immediate flush afterward. Again, not a long term solution. I%26#039;m not a dr. either, just making suggestions. Good luck!|||Try taking the vitamin c again?

I hate doctors like this ugh!

Could a Dermatologist fix my skin?

I%26#039;m 20 and past the whole puberty thing but I still have really oily skin. I used to have moderate acne and since it went a way (I still get a few pimples every now and then), I have a bit of redness left from the acne. I also have a bit of redness running from under my nose to down around my mouth. It didn%26#039;t used to bother me. Now it kinda does. Could a dermatologist make it go away or at least make it almost go away? I just want healthy skin like everyone else in my family. Could they do anything about my oily skin? Thanks.|||Use NEOSPORIN on your face every night before bed. That should heal up most of your problems.
