Can going to a dermatologist really help?

Hi, i%26#039;m in my early 20s and is just beginning to experience acne problem over the past couple of months. I was fortunate enough to never had to deal with it during my teen years, aside from the occassional zit that everyone gets.

But over the past couple of months, I been getting whiteheads here and there. It%26#039;s consierably mild, mostly on the cheeks. But it%26#039;s been 4-5 months and the results varies and it always comes back. I went to the dermatologist earlier this week for $150 and he prescribed some cream for day and night including a 5% benzoyl peroxide gel. I was wondering if I follow the dermatologist%26#039;s routine, how long before I should start seeing visible results. If you%26#039;ve had experience with a dermatologist before, please let me know.|||Yes, dermatologists can definitely help. I owe my skin to the assistance of dermatologists (and prescription products). Over-the-counter products are frequently inadequate to control many skin conditions, and the advice of a dermatologist (and their prescription pad) is necessary in order to effectively treat and control many conditions.

You should start seeing initial results in about two weeks or so. Depending on what gel you were prescribed, you might experience an initial -- but brief -- more intense breakout than usual. This will be temporary, and by the end of the first month, you should see significant results.

If your skin is not almost completely clear by the end of month two (or if your skin is over-irritated by the treatment), you should return to the dermatologist and request a different routine to follow. (Some people can%26#039;t tolerate benzoyl peroxide, but it is a great treatment for others.) Good luck -- and be patient!|||you try the product and if after a couple weeks there isn%26#039;t a significant improvement you go back and they will prescribe something else, or stronger
