Going to the dermatologist tomorrow .. but worried that I can't go in by myself?

I have various skin issues that I need to go to the dermatologist for. I have an appointment for tomorrow .. in which my mom is coming with me because I am 17...I don%26#039;t have my license yet anyway...It may seem silly to be worrying about this to you, but it is a problem for me. The last time I was there they made my mom come in with me .. like in the room where you are examined. They said that you can%26#039;t go in by yourself if you%26#039;re a minor, and I was 15 at the time. [this is the same derm] It didn%26#039;t bother me too much then, but the thought of my mom being in there while the doctor examines me bothers me now. I will be in one of those gowns and will need to lift it for him too see my legs, and buttocks, chest, back .. . I am a very private person in my home and in general with people I know and I do not like the idea of my mother seeing my body. [NOT because of the skin condition] like I don%26#039;t care about the derm seeing because I don%26#039;t know him personally.

Maybe I am weird but this just bothers me. I feel that I%26#039;m too old for that. I%26#039;m practically an adult and I think I%26#039;m capable of getting examined without %26#039;my mommy%26#039; watching. you know? and it%26#039;s not like it%26#039;s just the dermatologist by himself in there with me .. he has a female assistant that is always with him and his patients.

What should I do? I don%26#039;t even want to go to the appointment if my mom has to come in but I really need to get this skin issue sorted out.

Should I call beforehand to ask if I can go in alone or would that be too weird? ahhh idk what to do. This is seriously bothering me. :(|||Call the doc, tell him your problem, see if it%26#039;s ok. If your mom still has to go, ask if they can use the privacy screen. It%26#039;ll be a screen attached at the ceiling or whatnot, and they can pull it around so it%26#039;s just your doctor able to see you.|||It is probably a legality issue. Because you are not legally an adult you cannot legally go in by yourself. You are not the one paying the bill, it is not your insurance, so the person paying for it and who has the insurance has to be present. Again-it is a legal issue. They don%26#039;t want to be sued. It is an age of lawyers. Get used to it. Just ask your mom to look at a magazine. She really doesn%26#039;t care, she has seen it all.|||You should not be bothered by your mother there.

man you just told us all you have things wrong with you .

if your mother is willing to pay for it , let her in on it. for insurance

or other things. Some times it better to let others in on your problem

like you let us no. So be blessed that you even have a mother.

cause one day your going to cry over that spilled milk of you

situation. good luck. give your mom a hug.|||Calm down, if she has to be with you then she has to be with you. You seem to be forgetting that she saw you at your most vulnerable and naked when you were born. She changed you diaper, she cleaned up your vomit, she%26#039;s seen you sick before. You are a part of her and there%26#039;s nothing for you to worry about. And you can always ask her to look away if it still bother you. But relax seriously.
